Custom Performer/Supersonic bass

I had the same issue on a different preamp than you are using. Grounding the pots solved it. The pots that came with the preamp couldn't be soldered to, so I just cut a piece of thin brass to the same shape as the control cavity so all pots and switches were held down against it. Then I just soldered a jumper wire to the ring of the output jack.

Yes. I usually run copper shielding tape on the guard under the pots but spaced this time and forgot to do that. Thanks!

Man dude, that bass came out absolutely stellar. Did you get that noise issue worked out?

Those chrome pieces under the knobs are a nice touch, what are they and where did you get them? Those Tuners are very nice looking and that nut is a nice little extra detail that puts it over the top.

Thanks - stellar is a good word for a Supersonic bass! I will work on it tonight and hope it not only ends the hum but also sorts out the no quiet setting issue.

The knob skirts are fluted/chrome-plated brass back-plates for cabinet pulls that I got at a cool long-standing biz in SF that has everything (and I mean everything!) cabinet/door hardware related. They weren't cheap, ($10@!) but they were exactly what I was after. I had to hog-out the center holes to allow access for the pots.

The tuners are nice! They are made by Gotoh who have many varieties of cool tuners on their website. They are exactly perfect for this bass in every way.

$10 is a small price to pay, those little details make an instrument.

Have to say, that is simply awesome to look at. Seriously.
It makes me want to play with it and also protect it and keep it safe and warm forever. :D
Definitely want to hear it, also think I might want one for myself someday.

And to everyone else who checked out this build, thanks for your interest, insights and support. I wish you could all play it! (but then I'd have to try and get it out of your hands!) :bassist:
