custom shop dreams

Hey, Adrian. I wish I had one here. Mine was scheduled to be here a couple weeks ago but has been pushed back to the first week in July :crying: When I get it I'll let you know how it compares to the alder one you had. I guess I'm a Fender fanboy now. I've sold all my high end basses and own nothing but Fender's. The next thing you know I'll be joining every thread regarding Fender and I'll be saying:
Hi!
I play 300 shows a years and Fender's are the only thing I take to a gig. ;)

i bought a CS Classic Jazz 5 from Peter Parker ( great guy to deal with! )
and it was smokin! clean and beautiful. I did not hang on to it because it was Alder ( a heavy Alder at that) and I am an Ash guy all the way- i would not hesitate to order another and in fact, if they had an Ash one in stock, id grab it today. There's a certain thing to a Fender, in my opinion, that the other Fender style makers don't have- I am not bashing, and there are things that Sadowsky and Lull, etc have that Fender doesn't, but there is a fatness there, a decidedly Fender tone that is very appealing to me- I have an Am Dlx Jazz 5 and everywhere i take it, people love the tone, especially me.
Scott, er.. Spidey..., er, I mean, Peter.. got any Ash ones around? :D

I manage a music store so I placed an order with me and was treated very well;) They typically do have a few Custom Shop pieces in. Some very strange and some more usual. Most times they'll have a standard Jazz or P with custom colors and such.

Hey Peter Parker,

I'm not a Mod here, and I don't play one in my dreams, but I think you might want to take a second to peek at the Commercail User policy. Here's a few items you may wish to seek assistance with:

Commercial User: Any registered TalkBass member who:

B) Is employed by a music-related business

***Commercial User Policy***

User-Title Disclosures:

--Commercial users must fully disclose their affiliation in their user title. Your user title appears beneath your username (default is "Registered User"). Some examples:

Retailer: XYZ Bass Supplies & Accessories

If you are a 'registered user', please contact the board admin at [email protected] to request this be edited for you.

I think you might want to contact one of the TB mods and get your user title updated. I was a bit surprised to read your post quoted above and learn that you have a 'biased' interest - because your are a music store manager - that should be better, and more publically disclosed.

No dis intended your way. Just a request to come out of the closet and adhere with the Commercial User rules ... rules you most likely have innocently missed.

Here's a link to the full Commercial User policy:

When I post here, which is rarely, I never bring up the fact that I manage a store because I never try to sell anything to anyone. I was asked a direct question as to where I ordered my bass from and I answered. Also, if you read some of my past posts on various gear, I'm more likely to bash equipment that I sell than to compliment it. I manage a store, I don't own it, so therefore I carry several brands that I just don't like and am not afraid to say so. I've had people contact me who are users here that found out I was dealer looking for this or that. I turned them down as I'm not personally interested in selling out of state on the internet (though my company is) I would rather people support their local stores. I sold to Adrian at my cost because he's a dealer and a nice guy on top of that. Also, if I had any commercial wants from this site, I'm going about it all the wrong way. I doubt anyone but Adrian knows the name of the company I work for and I would like to keep it that way.

...you make it to the game Friday? I was there, didn't see you, didn't see your vehicle in the lot either.

If you are going with a Fender cause its a fender, then this conversation is over and you should just place your order or keep an eye on ebay.

If not, you do have MANY options available to you. Everyone is making a jazz bass these days, and no doubt you can play one that may just make you forget you ever thought about a Fender custom shop.

But then again........If I am going strictly for a Subaru WRX, why would I be at the Toyota dealer? You need to figure out if you are going for the original or not.......

Well stated, LJ. I personally am a big fan of the CS basses (both J's and P's) and owner of several. In general, they are exactly what they purport to be: extremely well-made Fenders, incorporating the very best materials, craftsmanship and know-how that Fender has to offer. This applies to both the standard Time Machine models as well as the truly custom Masterbuilt instruments. If you want a Fender, you won't find better.

I've tried instruments by other makers, and so should you if you're planning on spending $2k+ on a bass. I've liked many that I've tried, though in the end I always seem to come back to the Fenders.

Come on, man- EVERYBODY knows you work for Ed Roman! :hiding:

:D

Actually, I'm his illegitimate son... no wait. Which would be worse, to be his illigetimate son or legitimate son? Must think about that.

Gard, I did make it to the game. I rode with my brother and did park in the lot. SOme great weather that night, even though we lost.

Back on topic...

I've played a few CS Fenders, a P and a couple of jazzes and the quality was top notch, but not quite what I'd pay $3000 for. If you're looking for the Fender name and those specs, check out Fender Japan instruments, a real bang for the buck there. The CS instruments are phenominal, but the price is way out there (for good reason) but I just can't justify spending as much on a bass as I did my lovely car.

Uh...there is no good answer to the Ed Roman situation...just hide the facts, and hopefully no one will ever know.

The weather has been spectacular all weekend, I went again on Sunday, they LOST again...I have been to I don't know how many games now, and they've yet to win when I go. Don't tell them, they'll ban me from the park! :hiding: Next home game, July 4th, I'm there....you goin'?

Oh, and you need to go down to OT and check out the upcoming TB GTG here at the Roscoe shop!!!! Be there or be...uh...somewhere else! :ninja:
