Custom Shop or Not ????

Hi There,

I need a little Help :help:

15 Years ago I bought a Fender Jazz Bass in Shell Pink on eBay. Now I´m going to sell the Bass. The Stamp on the Neck and Body says it is a Custom Shop Bass. The Serial says it is an American Vintage..... Please help me what kind of Instrument I got. Sorry for my bad English I´m from Germany

Best Regards, Zoid

Geez, that is beautiful. Because Fender serial numbers can be misleading; and because neck plates are so easy to lose and then replace with one off Ebay; and because Fender has at times had a big box of neck plates with serial numbers on them, that would be used on whatever bass went across the assembly line--I would be inclined to not worry about what the serial number says. I would believe the stamps on the neck, indicating at a minimum the neck was from the custom shop, even if the entire bass wasn't. But look at it! Looks like a Custom Shop bass to me, with the uncommon finish, the 60's pickup positioning, and the 60's stacked knobs.

Your English is very good. Better than many Americans ;)

Anyway, it looks like a Custom Shop job to me. I've never seen a non-custom with only two knobs. Seems to me like someone who knows enough about basses to do that kind of mod, and find a three-hole control plate somewhere, wouldn't bother faking those stamps, they'd just want to play it.

Yeah, likewise the grounding strip from the bridge to the adjacent pickup. That bass was spec'd by someone with a lust for detail.
