Would knee braces like offensive linemen in American football wear work to help protect you?
Practiced last night with my old friend Ron (guitar) and his daughter Allison (singer). Girl has some pipes. Nailed the Lisa Loeb song "Stay"; especially considering the little time she spent learning the song. Turns out her BF is a singer/songwriter type. He played some of his original material; I jumped in underneath him. He liked what I was doing so maybe a gig or two there for me. Regardless it was a great evening.
I spent all day yesterday painting and housecleaning. We have furniture being delivered right now. Tonight I have GRR practice. Then I'm driving to Richmond to pickup Jackie's parental units. I'll grab a few hours sleep and then drive them back up to Pittsburgh tomorrow. Wenesday the four of us are going to see BB King. Thursday is thanksgiving.
I saw BB King, all i can find to say that's nice is "now i can cross that off my bucket list". But then didnt know any of his music, just him by name and i thought mom and i were buying $25 seats at the casino. Then a Prince show was announced right afterwards, mom wanted to go to that too, so right after i bought $90 (with all the fees) tix for Prince she tells me the only tix for BB King were $55. Luckily she was also disappointed enough in the show that she didn't make me pay her back for the tix.

Recording originals with Aries Rising tonight! So excited to get our ideas down. I'll share as the mixes come in
We've got to get back into the practice space, just found out we have at least one set to play on Dec 14th!!! 
Sounds like there is an underlying momentum to perform affecting our CWB and MoCWB; lots of folks getting gigs!!!
Got a call today from the place we did our little show a month or so ago. Seems they want us to go back in on Sun/25th and play again. Short notice, but I think we can accommodate them.
Just trying to decide if we do the same old stuff or bring in the new material we've been working on.
New material is not 100% but where we just played there a couple weeks ago we might need to change it up some.

I'm still trying to find gigs where the weather won't be a concern. It doesn't rain all that often here, but it can be pretty damned chilly when the sun goes down. We can easily get in where we have been playing..but it's outside.

Thanks C3. We learned about 3 covers for every original we play, but decided that we needed to give our originals the focus and get them recorded. It's tricky out here to balance covers with originals. In NY I rarely had the need to learn covers unless we wanted to tweak a tune or two for fun in a set. But here I see people sneaking in originals where they can. Each one has it's place, but I prefer making music over just playing music.
I've decided to record with my line out of my DB750 using the pre signal rather than the post. I'll also have a mic on my BagEnd 15 with the coax speaker. We can blend them to see if it adds more color or body to the sound.
We will record live as a trio and dub vocals afterwards. We tossed back and forth the goal for the final product and decided that is should be something we could perform live, without extra instrument tracks. keeping it simple may be where the magic lives. I don't like when songs sound overly produced.
I was hoping that this recording would be with my Zon but we decided to record even though I don't have it yet. The Fodera is a spectacular instrument, so no worries there. I just wanted to have a 6 string for some different voicings and sound.
It will be what it is and not what it's not. Should be a fun time either way.
Glad you are getting some cool gigs C3. There are so many nice opportunities around where you are. There's also quite a lot of competition which speaks to the quality of your bands. Congrats on both.
Kevin's songs are easily done live because he writes them for himself to sing with guitar, so it's just a matter of adding bass and drums and whatever vocals Laura contributes. Mine, not so much, because I frequently "hear" two guitars and keyboards, whereas we've only got one guitar and no keys (although I can play them). I've tried to write a couple that the four of us can do live and I've got one tee'd up.
We are fine doing mainly covers because we only play what we like and (mainly) that Laura likes to sing. The set list above is unusual for us in that we've been asked to do mainly danceable rock for the evening. Normally we cover stuff that doesn't fall into that category, like a number of Gillian Welch tunes for example. We run the gamut from acoustic Americana like last weekend to what you see above. All fine with me, and it gets us gigs.
But it's definitely exciting doing originals, so I'm looking forward to hearing your stuff ...
No, they interfere with the pads too much. Back when I had a minor MCL tear I tried a brace and it bound up inside the pads.
Hey, favor to ask.... anyone here play any holiday music (Xmas) that would be Public Domain (no royalties) that had a rock sound to it? I need a 30sec instrumental for a local Harley dealers radio ad. We don't have anything at my radio station that will work. I managed to find a ZZTop "sound alike" in the music bed library that works for their spots up until their Xmas add starts, but that means i need to find something my Nov 30 now. All i need is a 30sec mp3, it doesn't even have to be an amazing recording because it's just going behind the womans voice.
Well, we've been very lucky and have gotten some help along the way from some good friends.
Once again, we are sharing the stage with another band who are friends of ours, and we have a relationship with them. They have asked us to open for them at some of their shows, it was more of a favor to us so we could get known in the local area better without having to bang on doors.
We also have a second band who have seen us and have asked if we would be openers for them as well.
The biggest challenge we have now is getting a demo done. While we have gotten shows as far out as next spring/summer, we haven't been able to nail down a couple shows we wanted because they are looking for a demo CD.
And the window to get into some of these shows for next year is dwindling.
Actually, I kind of enjoy doing the opening act thing. It's not a ton of pressure, and where we can throw down 15 songs, or basically one set, and have a lot of fun putting our best stuff out there while we still work on other stuff.
Now this one will be a little different. I recently was asked to take on more singing (other than just backup), so these are the songs I sing lead on;
