Basswave and I parted ways with him telling me "I'll see you at the next GTG".

Maybe I should go to it.

In any case, he really is a great guy. We spent about 45 minutes just shooting the bull, he's very friendly and fun to talk to.

You must be a tall guy, Thor. Basswave comes in right around 6' or so, maybe a hair under, he's a little bigger than I am but we're in about the same category.


I love this bass. It's my first 5'er and I doubt my 4's will get a lot of use now. One thing I don't like is the strings, I've never been a fan of roundwounds, but that's what he had on it.

He did a short demo of the bass for me, and they guy is, like, waaayyyy better than I am. Slap and pop is his thing, and he's really good at it.

Carvin SB5000, swamp ash body, gloss neck, ebony fingerboard, low wide frets, a few other upgrades.

Basswave gave me a smokin' deal and if I ever get the chance to send some good Karma his way, it's done.

back from our acoustic gig. Really nice event in a small auditorium with great acoustics - and the audience is completely quiet while the performers perform, so it's not like a bar gig at all. We actually got a bunch of folks saying they are going to come hear us at Vassar in two weeks. Although we made clear that that will mainly be rock n roll, which tonight was not.

ah, got the call to play some jazz tonight (finally). So, acoustic gig with the VAs last night, jazz tonight and practice with the Shoemakers tomorrow ... three straight days of playin', life as it should be!

Enjoy your gigs C3; sounds like you have a great thing going. I am practicing for the first time tomorrow with an old friend I shared a band with back in the early 70's and his daughter. She is suppose to have an incredible voice. Two of the songs I learned for her have the same title: "Stay" by Sugarland and "Stay" by Lisa Loeb. The Lisa Loeb song never truly repeats itself which is interesting. I added a fretless bass part to the Sugarland song which does not have bass; also sing harmony on the chorus which is not in the original; I figured it would have been if the guy in Sugarland could really sing...

The Alembic Essence left Cottageville, PA yesterday and passed through Hagerstown, MD in the night; ETD is Tuesday.

Nice Carvin BSB! I've always wondered how those would sound/play. Ive come across carvin gear in the past and it was always well made.

Thanks..10G for a glorified dirt bike and the stinkin' clutch self-destructs. It's getting sold after I fix it. I'm going back to a nice and reliable Japanese bike. Won't be as fast or as light, but at least the bloody thing will stay together. I realized, today, that the head gasket replacement was only 2000 miles ago. I replaced the cam chain tensioner in March of this year, head gasket in May, and now I have to replaced the clutch hub. Granted, it hasn't been all that expensive to repair, but the bike only has 11K on it. BAH!

DT, I had all Japanese bikes and never had an issue with one of them. I sold the KX because I broke part of the frame jumping it and didn't have access to a welder. I was starting college anyhow so I wouldn't have had much time to tinker with it. Had a YZ490 as well. That thing was a monster, but a bit too much zip and weight. I preferred the KX.

All this car and bike talk has made me bug my brother to buy his 70 Nova... mostly because it's got a Merlin 509 in it We will have to see if he really wants to part with it.

Had a lot of Answer equipment on it. I traded a 1968 327 with bowtie 202 heads that was tricked out, and a Muncie rock crusher 4 speed for it. I left the engine in my 1966 C10 fleet side p/u so he got the whole vehicle.

I've been riding for 28 years. I've had nothing but Japanese bikes until the KTM. The KTM was my first foray into European bikes. I saw a quote on a forum that pretty much sums up my feelings on the bike, "Best bike that I have ever ridden, worst bike that I have ever owned".
I'm looking at replacing it with a Suzuki DR650.
I was once into muscle cars. These days, I prefer something that I can drive without having to touch a wrench to it frequently.

as a bike shop owner I have a little insight into the problems with bikes... The suzuki is a lot of fun. Go look at Yamaha again...
First the disclaimer..I ride hard! I ride with the knowledge that I can fix anything I break, and if I do not pile a dirt bike up, now and then, I was not trying hard enough.
I was a fanatical honda fan for a long time. Now I am looking at Yamaha as the top bike. Suzuki now has most of their parts made in China. The designs may be good, but I am seeing a lot of problems with metal quality

Yamaha doesn't make what I want anymore. Their only dual sport (and supermoto choice) is an 250. I want a dual sport that is 500cc or bigger. The only Japanese manufacturer that fits that bill is Suzuki.

Yamaha doesn't make what I want anymore. Their only dual sport (and supermoto choice) is an 250. I want a dual sport that is 500cc or bigger. The only Japanese manufacturer that fits that bill is Suzuki.

If you are comfortable with your bike coming from the same factory as a Hyosung, then noting I say matters. If you look into it, Hyosung and suzuki are partners, and suzuki gets parts for some bikes from Hyosung, others suzukis are rebadged hyosungs. This would scare me if it was my money being spent

BSB, I am like 6"1 1/2. I was wearing Furry Monkeys black
4" stilletto heels for the occasion so I look a little taller, that's all.
