I had an Alembic Epic 5 back in the 90's. Shattered my wrist (2 operations, 12 wks in a cast, 4 screws & a plate) left me with very limited movement and I sold the Epic and stopped playing for a while. It will be good to have another one.

Love the wood on your project Tat. Looks a lot like my new addition; burly instead of birdseye..

It doesn't have to have frets to be playable. I rather enjoy playing my fretless (although I don't play it nearly enough). Give em a try!

I agree. I mentioned having sold two basses this summer; they were my last fretted basses. I do not fret around like I used to....

Seriously, I have always had at least one fretless bass around and over the years they just sorta took over.

Hey everyone, just checking in. Nice to see everyone is still doing well.

I have not been checking in much, the last month of my life has been probably one of the most challenging that I could ever imagine, and has been a living nightmare.

In any case, on a lighter note, I've decided that I need to move over to a good quality 5 string, but wanted something "traditional", if there is such a thing. And I am a big Carvin fan, so tonight I'm meeting fellow TB'er Basswave and taking this little smoker off his hands;

Just wanted to pop in and say hi. Been a little busy, daughter's b-day, in-laws in town, lots of family and kids, left me not much time for much else. Band found a new singer, she's awesome!

Thanks, I don't know about uber cool though. I do need to learn to smile more while playing but I get focused and in The Zone and forget to do that!

Urgh..day started out ok. Bike crapped out on me on the way home from work, and then I get an email from the singer chick saying that she has to quit. BAH!! I need a beer.

I was a Harley dealership mechanic from 1979 to 1986 (AMI grad where they taught us, "Lucus was the inventor of darkness"; owning a Triumph I know you understand this) while going back to school to get my mechanical engineering degree.

Having owned a 74 Tiger, I can attest to this. One time I tried to start it to go home from a bar. No ignition lights, no juice. Wouldn't run. I finally gave up and went and had another beer. Came out 15 mins later, put the key in, lights came on and fired right up. WTH?

I'm trying to learn at least one song per day. Today I tackled two chestnuts that I'm sure all of you here have played a billion times. (I know that I have as a drummer...)

First was "Hey Joe", I have that very solid and I'm already screwing around with it. The other is Brown eyed girl which I've almost nailed. I know that these are stupidly simple, but I'm never gotten around to messing with them. They both have fairly specific parts that you have to play and that's why I've targeted them.

BEG, I had to play every Tuesday for about a year. You have to work a little at it to get the timing right. I did get kind of sick of it though. I finally insisted Wild Nights be substituted.

Random... My district is erasing all our hard drives!?! This couldn't wait till Saturday? I wonder what crazy stuff they found now

Five string and fretless? No, I likely won't be ready at all for that. But I'll hold it and run my hands over it's sexy curves. (And wish that I could play it...)

I had a 5 string fretlles Benevente. Liked the bass, but never liked fretless. Finally sold it, thank god.

Bought a new bass on TB last night; hopefully will be delivered next week.

Thanks..10G for a glorified dirt bike and the stinkin' clutch self-destructs. It's getting sold after I fix it. I'm going back to a nice and reliable Japanese bike. Won't be as fast or as light, but at least the bloody thing will stay together. I realized, today, that the head gasket replacement was only 2000 miles ago. I replaced the cam chain tensioner in March of this year, head gasket in May, and now I have to replaced the clutch hub. Granted, it hasn't been all that expensive to repair, but the bike only has 11K on it. BAH!

Still awaiting your tips, btw.

Mine is in between but we chose it mostly for the sound.
Quilted spalted maple top-wenge tone plate-ash back.
It will have two massive pickups that are basically one single coil and one music man like humbucker in each shell.
Tons of eq and toggle switching ability
19mm spacing 6 string on 34" scale.
The headstock will match as well.

This will be my go to bas and my solo bass for sure. I played a Modulus Q6 for almost 10 years as my solo bass but it was just too tight at 17mm. Then I had a Status S2 classic 6 string at 18mm. The sound was wicked but not for a solo instrument.

looks much more figured with when wet. I had Joe find this piece for the top because I wanted it to sound just like my old Zon Sonus Custom 5 string when in humbucker mode.

Not as drool inducing as your quilt. Love how your roscoe looks. What are you going to do for pickups? Scale, spacing?

My TJ6 looks a bit disproportionate ( not unlike yours truly) but when it has that wide neck and the bridge on it, it will look more normal. The body is a bit oversized as well because I like a bass with some meat on it.
