CWB 20: Babes and Barbarians

I don't know bikes much, but that looks like a clutch. And quite a bit like my VW flywheel looked when the mainseal unraveled (vs just the rubber cracking and it leaking) because the flywheel was warped.
I may not speak bike, or newer car.... but start speaking aircooled VW to me and i will try and out-do you

I spent more time working on the watercooled Veedubs more than the air cooled variety.

C3, a Vassar gig sounds like a wicked good time. Skidmore is a blast to play too if you get the chance.
done that, but I'm embarassed to say when. Suffice it to say that we had to fight off the wooly mastodons to do the gig.
that said, I have some younger generation contacts in 'toga, so I'm leaving the option open.
Well i owned 3 of them, and worked on my type one and type 2 myself. Except for the fact that i can't reach the top bot to drop the engine and the strength to wrestle it back into place i can just about R&R an aircooled engine myself with the help of a jack, 4x4, skateboard and a come-along (which we used to lift the body off the engine block so i could pull it out from under the car on the skateboard. I have R&R'd carbs, distributors, points and many other parts on the side of the road. I can do a tune up and oil change myself and set the timing and adjust the valves. The only thing i dont do is spark plugs, because i can cross thread a mayonnaise jar lid and i had to replace a head when i got the plug stuck and it finally stopped working.
I've driven them with dead generators, dead electrical systems (that was fun, new fuse every 2 miles until i gave up and used a coin). Ripped pistons and massive oil leaks (the torn mainseal). My kids know the little red lights mean "get out and look" and "get out and walk" respectively. I'd go back to driving them again if i thought they were safe. I'd really like to have a double cab Bus.

Very impressed. I bet you wear camo, drink moonshine, bait your own hook, skin your own deer and dip Skoal! Seriously, installing a helicoil in aluminum head is pretty easy when the plug threads strip.

I have an extra ford V10 triton engine, here. I was thinking it might make a cool hot rod engine if I could find a 46-51 ford pickup... you are welcome to try your hand at rebuilding it...
If you can handle that I have my dad's old 64 1/2 mustang convertible (K code solid lifter GT package). You can start right in on that restoration

Had learned the hard way that the "get out and walk" light means business and ripped a piston right behind the oil ring. It never did leak, just got metal shards in the main bearing.
Finally ended up buying an engine out of a wrecked car and totally swapping them out. Totally shocked the guy when hub and i pulled up in a Rabbit with a small trailer and had that engine pulled ourselves while he got himself a beer.

I've been a gearhead since I could walk.
I played with air cooled veedubs in my youth. I had a 67 Beetle ragtop. One of my closest friends had two different buses, a 61 and then a 66. The 66 way pretty strong. Another buddy had a heavily modified 63 type one with the full canvas sunroof. And lastly, another of our circle ran a box stock 66 before he picked up a "modern" 72 Beetle. I was either the secondary or primary wrench of four different engine swaps on these various toys.
I was more of a Ford guy though. I had a bunch of different cool and not so cool Fords over the years. These included a 59 Galaxie 500 four door, a 1975 Pinto coupe with a mildly built 2800 V6, a 66 Thunderbird Landau and a 67 Mustang fastback that was a total rag when I bought it. I made it decent and painted it like McQueen's 68 before I sold it.
Most of the time over the years I drove Ford wagons so that I could haul gear. I had a Fairmont wagon with a straight six and a four speed that I bought new. It was sort of cool actually. I had a 64 Falcon wagon with a 260 V8 and three speed on the column.
But I spent most of the past 20 years in Taurus wagons, sedans and Ford minivans.
I also had a couple of GMC Yukon XLs as company cars.
Now as an old retiree musician I drive a Chevy HHR. It's cheap, simple and hauls gear.

I'm trying to learn at least one song per day. Today I tackled two chestnuts that I'm sure all of you here have played a billion times. (I know that I have as a drummer...)
First was "Hey Joe", I have that very solid and I'm already screwing around with it. The other is Brown eyed girl which I've almost nailed. I know that these are stupidly simple, but I'm never gotten around to messing with them. They both have fairly specific parts that you have to play and that's why I've targeted them.

I can honestly say that I have never tried those two. I have attempted "Voodoo Child", though.
