CWB 20: Babes and Barbarians

C3, how did the acoustic gig go?

acoustic gig is next Friday night - I will report in.

November 30 is a gig at Vassar College. With that, I'll have played recently at Vassar, Marist, Bard, Dutchess Community and the Culinary Institute. I'll need to look north to Skidmore, site of several gigs from my younger days ... I actually do have a couple of contacts up in 'Toga, so maybe that can happen.

I looked up a few people I knew from high school. Found my first love (not looking so good to me now), then realized that if I really wanted to stay in touch with these people I would have.

I went to only one high school reunion, my 20th. All the "cool" guys and gals didn't look so cool any more, and the girls I never paid any mind to, well I realized they were the most beautiful as women. It was a real lesson and enough to make me avoid anything having to do with high school ever again.

Trust me - playing in bands was completely what got me through those days sane.

There are many old photos there for the curious. I have no FB friends, nor do I want any. Many of you are my friends though I do not consider you "virtual" friends; more like "real" friends. What an innovative notion, huh? I have always counted my friends pretty much on one hand and considered myself lucky if I count on the high end; but that's just me...you know, the curmudgeon with a conundrum. And while I am at it, get the hell off my lawn!

Speaking of FB...Many of you are already FB friends of me. But if you are an FBer and want to find me there, here is a link.
And mine: https://www.facebook.com/JaamE

And my band: https://www.facebook.com/SupahSweetBand

And then i'll be horribly confused learning who you all are by your "real-life" names :-)

Keep in mind we play mostly just for fun :bassist:

not a facebook person for the reason previously stated, but if you want some real-life stuff here is my regular band's website, and you can listen to some samples and look at some pics there:

Chuck, you've got some mad bass skills yourself. :bassist:

And every girl loves a guy who can handle a DB. :)

Very true. :p:bassist:

I find that female friendships are notoriously challenging and complicated. Tat and FM from this thread have become two of my closest female friends. Honestly, if I had a problem, I wouldn't hesitate to call either one of them - I would definitely turn to one of them quicker than I would a lot of my other female "friends" who live closer. Truth is, I have very little in common with most of the soccer moms I find myself surrounded by.

In general, I think it's harder to make friends as an adult, especially for those of us that tend to be a little introverted or eccentic.

But rest assured, you are among friends here. :)

110% agree. We're just so awesome we all had to find one another on the internet. :) I swear that night we hung out is filed in my memory as one of the most fun nights I can remember having...well...mostly remember.... :D

Now all I need is someone other than a snoring grizzly or a squirmy kid (she often finds her way in at night) to snuggle and doze out with, LOL.

It's no wonder I wake up in the middle of the night a lot...

I have the same thing, but I love sleep too much to actually do more than push them out of my way. :p

Nov 10 has been the Marine Corps' birthday for the last 237 years..

I dunno if there will be any extra hoopla..if there wasn't before, I doubt that there will be now.

Happy Birthday to the MC and thanks for keeping us safe!

A wise man once said, "70 ain't old, iffen she's wearing something TIGHT."

Just look at Betsey Johnson. She just turned 70 and she's still doing cartwheels and designing awesome shoes (and clothes and such).

Alright...this is really wrong...but I love, love, love seeing how old and ugly people who were ignorant to me when we were young have gotten. It's some weird sort of vindication. My ex husband got really fat...and he thought he could do better than me. Guess who is still single...and really ugly... :D

My Angry Birds Combo is so named because an Army friend of mine bought it for me for my birthday while he was deployed. His unit handle is Angry Birds.
He knew I needed it and didn't have the money saved up yet and when he saw this one on MF as "damaged in shipment" for 1/3 the price he decided i needed to be spoiled. The Angry Bird dogtag covers the crack in the grill and was put there the first time the amp played out because he could not be there to see us play.

The skanky pics with it are available via PM :-)

That is a phenomenal story. I love it. Talk about warm fuzzies...it's great when someone shows you just how important to them you are. :smug:
We think that you are "just right" JammE.
I'm just weird. I'm more reserved on the internet. Tat and FM met me in person and I'm sure that they will agree that I'm much crazier in person.
I am looking at stripper poles for the Bass-ment folks!

We absolutely do think you're awesome J.

And, Mike, yes you are a blast to hang with!!! Hopefully we can do it again soon, and under all fun circumstances!

Make sure you get one that spins too!!! Something cathartic about a solid spin on a pole... :D
I had a two-fer this afternoon!

(Get your minds out of the gutter.)

I stopped in a potential venue and ended up getting both bands booked.

If I got my mind out of the gutter it would be homeless...and the thread would be a boring. :p

Congrats on the gigs! :p

Only got my own page when I clicked it... :(
I'll look you up there for sure though. No friends though, right? :p

Nope, no virtual friends. Like yourself, my friends know who they are. Never saw the need to advertize them or boast about them. Never needed a list cause they always seemed to be there when I needed them and I for them.

edit: Two of my best friends in this life committed suicide which lead to my rule No. 1. "Always play the cards you are dealt cause the alternative sucks." You see, you are dealt those cards for a reason. You either earned them or you need to learn that lesson. Off yourself and the next time through you are still going to have to play those same cards plus the BS cards you just dealt yourself for committing suicide. Just my thoughts on the subject.

this goes back 15 or so CWBs, but talk about a biological reaction ... well, I had one to this pic.

not sure where I was going with that thought process ... or even that there was a thought process.

p.s. this is the first image that comes up if you google-image "furry monkey talkbass."

sorry to learn about your friends, but I agree with your point.

interesting you think about the" the next time through." I look at it that way too. Not everyone does.

I'll bet you're not the only person googling furry monkey images, lol!

Just got home from the local open mike. I had an awesome night, the music this time went into "The Zone". That sweet spot where you can't hit a bad note and the song is yours...

Yes. QTF.

Thanks for the soundtrack to my CWB reading. :) As always, good choices. And not that I minded listening to it twice, but you repeated that last Jefferson Airplane link.

Hey, forgive me. Doris was feeling her oats,,

Mr Thor,

I am a Jeff Beck aholic. I saw him with two older siblings when I was SIX years old. It was a Yardbirds show and I thought that the guitartist was unbelievable. (He was and is...) I've followed his career all the way up to the present.

Mick Waller... sigh. I listened to Mr Waller's playing so much as I was learning drums, my guitarist brother used to introduce me in the band as Mick Waller. His chugga-chugga version of a shuffle is a little different than anyone else's and I adopted it as my own. When he did a roll he would start out slow and half way around the kit kick it into hyper-drive. Or it would start out slow and rambling and finish at warp speed. My brother once said that his rolls sounded like you kicked his drumset down a staircase and the kit lands at the bottom on one. When I started playing all of those years ago I never intended on copying Mick Waller, it just happened. If you like his playing, you'd get a kick out of my drumming.

I channel that all the time. I hope we do play together sometime, I know you'll be a killin bad@$$ drummer. You'll dig my stuff I know. :)

You know this is home now. Just submit. The ladies have the duct tape and stun guns ready, they told me that after a few minutes you'll beg for more. You will. Trust me on this. :)

I hear you, I lost one too. We'll talk.
