CWB: 23 TBD

hey Tat. Hope all is well with you.

stepping back from the legal work and getting ready for the gigs coming up, I was kinda pissed that one of my basses that was set up a couple of months ago was really out of sorts. I've resolved to do my own setups as much as possible now, and so I'm hanging out on the Hardware, Setups and Repair subforum or whatever it's called. Got my P bass decently set back up by myself. But I want to learn how to do setup on all my basses, including intonation.

been playing my fingers off since the trial ended and it sure feels good. Gigs coming right up.

Chuck..I did my own setups shortly after getting my first bass. It is pretty easy to do and there are lots of guides on the net.

You can obtain needed tools like a nut/saddle file set here:

The nut/saddle file set, in my opinion, really aren't needed unless one is planning on replacing the nut or the bridge.

I use the following when I do a setup:

Straight-edge (one the length of the fretboard)
Feeler gauges
Allen key set
Chromatic tuner
Machinist's ruler (for measuring action and pickup height)
Phillips head and flat head screwdrivers (for adjusting intonation and pickup height).

I've just been down with a sore back, i brilliantly tried to move a pot full of dirt and i now get to choose between vegging on meds or vegging on pain. Chiro put some other stuff back in place but this is muscular.

I'm trying to re-learn a song that i hate from when i learned it on guitar in 08 to bass now, and i'm so indifferent to it that i can't focus, even though it is a relatively easy one. Its just fast, and i loathe it and i cant hear it right, plus i transposed it to strings i'm not confident on so that i don't have to move my left hand as much.

And chick on drums..all yum!

yum but in a little too fake kind of way. (It was a photo shoot, I don't think they're really musicians. The Lakland guy was just saying that his bass was used.)

For hotness of guitar-bass-drum trios that are all chicks, I don't think anyone will ever top Passiv Aggressiv's old band Sonic Cherry. These chicks are real - they're right there in a kitchen in Ohio!

Not only is PA easy to look at (understated with respect to my advanced age) but she is also more intelligent and more intuitive than 99.9% of the population. She is the whole package. I truly think we can say similar things about all four of our active CWB gals; we are a lucky bunch of MoCWB in case some of you have not noticed...

With that thought in mind and at the risk of sounding maudlin I want to thank all of you of both genders who in my mind have truly become my friends. I would not have believed it possible in this format.

I am going to go plant a fig tree now...

Agreed on all points.

I find it amazing that people can become friends through this type of format. I equate it to like being pen-pals, except on a much grander scale.

PA rocks!

I have to get to Columbus one of these days...

Columbus Pro Percussion has an annual event called Drum Daze that I've attended a bunch of times. I was hoping to drive out to it this year AND get to meet PA. They canceled the event this year because the venue is being renovated. (Bummer.)

Better than pen pals. IME, most pen pals never meet. We have broken that mold beyond penal into real friends who know, understand, and appreciate each other and each others' lives, challenges, and successes.

And on that note...for those of you here who served our country so we could have the freedoms we enjoy, thank you. Without you and those like you, none of this would be possible.

I have a question. No disrespect intended. When did Memorial Day become Veterans Day? My mother asked me this question this morning and got me to thinking. We (being my family) typically visit the graves of our departed family members on Memorial Day and we honor the veterans in the fall on Memorial Day. But if you are watching any TV this weekend you would think it is Memorial Day. Just saying....

Back to my fig tree....bought a couple beautiful orchids at Lowes this morning.

Im not sure either, maybe when we started realizing that we lost so many, and so many have come back broken.

I want a fig tree, my farmers market sells them, but im not totally convinced that id ever get figs off of them around here
