It's my understanding that LeMond liked his TT a bit on the longer side and incorporated that into his bike. The LeMond brand itself was manufactured by Trek. Trek was also a HUGE sponsor of one Lance Armstrong. After LeMond let it be know in kind terms that he suspected LA of doping, LA put pressure on that sponsor, threatened to drop them as a sponsor, and thus doomed the LeMond line to extinction.

Awesome. More Lance Armstrong. Then again, I'm a racer who probably dopes according to a recent thread.

I don't know if I buy that story. Did Gary Fisher accuse LA of doping as well? I think it was just a business move to shut down LeMond.

Much like a lot of the LA fiasco, the untold parts of the story tend to be a little pertinent. LeMond bikes weren't selling. Nice enough bikes, but they weren't anything special or in demand. Attacking the #1 seller of bikes wasn't a good idea when he didn't have the sales figures.

I'm not sure if we have many east coasters on this forum but...

The Fitchburg Longsjo Classic Stage race is back on this year. This is a old bike race for America and could use support, racers and spectators.

Lemond's tend towards a long cockpit. He pedaled behind the crank as opposed to the more modern up on top of the crank position.

I have a 49 Zurich frame and fork in my attic...

Friend of mine had a bad crash. Not exactly sure what happened to him since he only remembers waking up on the ground. He either passed out or his crank locked up.

Went over the bars, thrashed his bike, cracked his helmet, broke his collar bone, and fractured his hip. Collar bone was screwed back together. He'll have to take a long break while his hip fracture heals. :hmm:

Definitely. I think he had a pretty light concussion that could have been severe without a helmet.

My aunt has a neighbor that was just out with his daughter. He caught a bad sidewalk crack just right and spent several months in the hospital with head trauma and several months relearning to walk.

Damn, I nearly got hit by cars a few time. I don't want to think too much in what shape I'd be if I wouldn't of been able to avoid them.

Question: Can anybody recommend a good online tutorial on wheel building? Just regular old fashioned spokes. My recently built rear wheel is breaking spokes, no doubt due to a combination of starting with a rim that wasn't round to begin with, and screwing it up. I have an old bike repair book, whose wheel building instructions I don't quite believe any more.

That's the guy the race is dedicated to. A Fitchburg native and a talented athlete who passed early of a cause I'm not sure of.

Arthur "Art" Matthew Longsjo, Jr. (October 23, 1931 – September 16, 1958) was an American Olympian speed skater and cyclist. He was born in Fitchburg, Massachusetts and died in a car accident in Burlington, Vermont at age 26. In 1956 he competed in both the Summer and Winter Olympics in the same year In his first cycling event, Art rode his bicycle 1.5 hours to the race, from Fitchburg to Westboro, MA, then competed and won the 1 mile, 3 mile, and 25 mile races.
Longsjo won the 5,000 m speed skating event at the United States national championship to make the Olympic team at the 1956 Winter Olympics; however, due to a knee injury before the games, he placed outside the medal stand.
The Fitchburg Longsjo Classic is a memorial road bicycle racing stage race was started in his home town of Fitchburg, Massachusetts in 1960, and has been held annually ever since.
