I applaud this guy honestly..if you read the comments in other channel posts of this video (they are disabled on this one), some people are saying this is abuse or they assume the daughter is being abused and/or she's going to grow up to be anti-social. I disagree. She was on the right track to being a selfish, self-absorbed person and hopefully this gets through to her.

The guy works in IT, dresses up like Chuck Norris, shoots at an inanimate object with the obligatory b-movie "tough-guy" line and films himself while doing so; all because his teenaged daughter had a little moan to her friends about doing the housework. Talk about descending to a level.

I don't think the daughter is the only "self-absorbed" one in that household.

I hope he took the HDD out.

I applaud the effort though I think it could've been a little more thought out. It is nice to see a parent putting forth the effort to stop their kid from being a degenerate. Just seeing this video makes me think of my brothers Twitter page and despite the fact that he is one of the smartest, hardest working people I know, that page makes him seem like anything but :/

Was anyone else highly bothered by him throwing his cigarette butt on the ground? Maybe I'm a little over sensitive to it but after seeing about a thousand cigarette butts all over throughout the course of my day I am really sick of seeing people just chuck them anywhere.

As for the dad I don't think he's all together there. She should have been punished but this was a waste. He could have just given the laptop to goodwill or some sort of charity.

That could have been handled better. Geez, I can only imagine what their home dynamic is. The message was sound, the execution was a train wreck.

My Daughter doesn't even do chores in my house for folding money, she does it to EARN her cell phone payment. If she holds up that end of the bargain without being reminded, I'll slap a little fun money in her hand for hang time with her friends, but she knows that beyond her cellphone, she's supporting the house, and showing respect for it. A more valuable lesson.

Too many kids get handed every last thing to them by parents desperate to be their buddies first...no wonder they think like they do. They weren't born self absorbed.

IMO facebook has hurt about as much as it has helped. It seems like every other month some poor soul makes the news because of suicide and cyber bullying. On the other hand, it has reconnected people and helped others make a living. The guy parented the way he wanted, so who really cares? Why is this national news? I don't think anyone needs or wants to be told how great or poor of a parent they are from a bunch of strangers.

When I was your age I had already left home, took college courses while in high school, worked two jobs, and was a volunteer firefighter.

Yup and I walked 11 miles to school through snow chest high, uphill both ways.

I would hope an IT professional could think of a smarter way to disable a computer. I don't think it's a good idea to teach your kid that when you are angry it's cool to destroy property. Anyway, I don't know him or his daughter so I won't question his methods, but I doubt that this will have the outcome the he expected.

She made a post on a private facebook page that at best 50 people read, so he responds by putting this on youtube so now millions of people can ridicule his daughter and pat him on the back for being a super parent. My question is what type of parenting has been going on for the first 15 years of this girl's life up to this point where she believes that this sort of behavior is cool. If you don't have a firm grip on your kids by the time they get to their teens you are going to be in for some headaches.

A flag always goes of in my head when someone needs to take private matter and make it public. A 15 y/o doing it, well lets just face it teenagers act out and many of them use facebook as a digital diary. I would hope the parent of a 15 y/o would know better to retaliate in such a manner.

Of course I don't have kids so I could be completely wrong. :p

This, I agree with this in virtually every way, what this guy does with his kids and his property is his own business, but I think what he's doing is a pretty dumb idea - especially the part about making it a public matter, I didn't need to know about it. Frankly I don't see how it would benefit his daughter in any way other than showing her that it's okay to break expensive stuff if you're angry about something that's THAT juvenile. What exactly is accomplished? Chances are, the kid didn't learn anything, and there's $130 (not to mention the cost of the laptop and the time he invested in it) and some expensive .45 rounds down the drain, but at least he looked like a kick-ass loose cannon hothead teaching his yuppie spoiled-brat kid a lesson while doing it.... right?

If this had been someone in some of the places I've worked, there would have been an outbreak of "critical", "whiny teenager" facebook posts, e-mails and memos, all with "please don't shoot me" type sarcastic messages attached to them.

Seriously though, if my daughter was friends with his, I'd be less than happy about this, let's say, lack of proportion.

THREAD

Destroying the computer was just stupid, especially with a gun on the internet. Donating the computer to a charity or even taking it away from his daughter for a few months would have made the point without the attention grabbing show that the father put online.
