Dad Shoots Daughter's Laptop Over Facebook Post

I agree that the girl needed to be punished for making a dumb decision, but I'm not sure how A reached B in this case. Really what's the moral of this story? Mouth off to your parents and they'll violently destroy your (his) property and publicly humiliate you. It's just a waste. He complains about all the money and time he's sunk on this computer, the he just throws it all in the trash. Way to teach the value of things, dad.

The biggest problem I see is that on one hand we have a 15 year old girl making dumb choices and being disrespectful. That should surprise no one. On the other hand we have a grown, educated man whose solution is to waste money by destroyed a laptop and expanding on the disrespect/humiliation factor by posting it all on youtube. Things just don't add up.

That could have been handled better. Geez, I can only imagine what their home dynamic is. The message was sound, the execution was a train wreck.

Old school parenting? I say old school nutjob. Public humiliation as a parenting technique. Yeah, that should work out real well for you. I'm sure she'll tow the line now...NOT!

I agree with any sentiment that this was a total parenting fail. All positive aspects to his message totally voided by that self-absorbed display. I bet dollars to donuts his family dynamic does not take positive steps forward in the wake of his little lesson. In fact, I'd bet that Dad, and Mom, and Step-Mom have no one to blame for their challenges with this child but themselves.

I personally find this quite disgusting. In Australia, doing something like this would most likely warrant child services taking your children away and/or even jail time.

Whilst I do understand that he may be having trouble with his daughter and that he need's to discipline her, his methods are extreme and hipocritical. He is acting like this is the first time in history that a teenager has ever acted out against their parents. News flash mate - it was part of the deal when you signed up to being a parent! To do what she did originally to punish her via a form of pseudo-cyber bullying to publicly humiliate her, then discharge a firearm in a public place like that - well, there's a few Australian federal laws violated already. The damage that he has done to their relationship may never heal.

Worst part is he still hasn't deleted the video yet which leads me to assume he may be more self-absorbed than his daughter. If teaching her a lesson is more valuable to him than MILLIONS of people watching him publicly humiliate her and call her condescending names, well he has a very warped mind.

Maybe I am looking too much into the potential future with this, but I see nothing positive to come out of the combination of this public humiliation and emptying a whole clip of bullets into a laptop (after all, he claimed he wants his $130 back for the anti-virus software. What is he gunna do, keep the laptop for collatoral?? It's useless now!). She will get over the laptop, but the public humiliation she may never be able to deal with properly.

Sad, very sad...

Cheers,
Jordy

P.s. A 3 month grounding for writing a rant about your parents?!? Man, I stole my dad's car when I was 14 and took it for a spin when he wasn't home, he only grounded me for a month!! This isn't the 50's anymore!!

Parent of the Year or Gun Toting Nut Job?

Dad shoots daughter's laptop over Facebook comments - YouTube

I applaud this guy honestly..if you read the comments in other channel posts of this video (they are disabled on this one), some people are saying this is abuse or they assume the daughter is being abused and/or she's going to grow up to be anti-social. I disagree. She was on the right track to being a selfish, self-absorbed person and hopefully this gets through to her.

anyone who believes that is a complete fool. i dont know if the daughters facebook post is listed anywhere there, but im sure she deserved it.

and im also sure this dudes parenting method worked, and his daughter got the message.

Even if I can sympathize with where this guy is coming from in regards to his daughter, he lost it by the very fact that he read his daughter's Facebook post (which more likely than not only her friends could see) in a video that he posted on YouTube for the world to see that's gone viral, and then shot her laptop to smithereens. There's a right way and a wrong way to handle issues with your kid, and IMO posting a video about it on YouTube puts you on the same level as your daughter you're trying to teach a lesson to.

I didn't see this post before I posted mine, but I still give it a big +1. I think this guy is a loose cannon that's probably done irreversible damage to his relationship with his daughter.
