He's hoping for his own reality TV show. I can't believe that people are giving him props for this, or calling it old school parenting. My father had class and more control over his emotions and his household than that.

Dad Shoots Daughter's Laptop Over Facebook Post

He could have handle the situation a lot better. If you wanna punish your daughter, replace her laptop w/ a desktop. The old ones that are preloaded w/ win98. It's enough for her to do her school work, but too slow to get on facebook. It'll be a hoot seeing her daughter trying to navigate through the internet w/ a slow computer.
No. Kids have ALWAYS been stupid. Always. Just nowadays they have more options with which to prove it to the masses. The fact that you and some others think it's great is a testament to how voyeuristic reality television has desensitized the masses into thinking this behavior is entertaining and not the sociopathic act that it is. That "father" should be ashamed, in not the least of which trumping his daughter at her own game. The guy is a colon with legs.

If it could even still load a word processor or a modern webpage. With her laptop gone she has to use her parents' computer on their time.
Also, while she can still access facebook on her friends' phones/computers and at libraries, it's on their time, not hers. Taking away her laptop (granted it was in an overly dramatic way) will hopefully teach her something about responsibility and respecting others' property.
I don't think it would ever have been likely that a person like this would have thought of giving the laptop to charity. Not enough drama.
Not to be a nit-picker, but part of me doubts his little biography is even remotely accurate. Moved out and lived on his own at 16, "went to college WHILE in high school", had 2 jobs, and was a volunteer fireman.
I understand the point is to paint himself as a hard worker and his daughter as lazy, but it just seems fishy and very "when-I-was-your-age-I-had-to-walk-17-miles-to-school-in-the-snow-uphill-both-ways-ish" to me.

The apple never does far from the tree. A less dramatic punishment would have been better but if anything she'll be worse and possibly violent the next time she acts up (which, in that household can't be too far off).
Could have been a community college. I took college classes through HCC while I was in HS through a dual credit program, so it is likely. But yeah, he did lay it on pretty thick.
