Dad Shoots Daughter's Laptop Over Facebook Post

Though a little over the top, like some have said, I think this was pretty great. Kids nowadays are stupid. I know because I am one. Well 19, but really, thats still a kid.

I was lucky and learned respect and all that comes with at a young age. But in highschool and college, kids all around are just plain stupid. Freshmen in highschool getting pregnant, daily od's at school, and the disrespect shown to adults and really all types of authority, is stupid. Your not gaining anything, and nothing is being solved. Kids need to figure out that, just like they have been told their whole lives, when you start acting like an adult, you get treated like one.

I also think parents are too soft. Some friends say mine were strict growing up. But looking back, they really werent. I didnt have to do much except basic little chores and whatnot. They bought me everything I needed, and even some stuff I wanted. I got through school with great grades and all of my girlfriends parents think im the best guy that their daughter has dated. All because of a little bit of tough love when I was growing up.

This guy may have been a little over the top.. But I, as a kid, appreciate the effort. Ha.

Any wonder why the daughter is messed up, this guy has a screw loose foaming at the mouth, flippn butts and poppin caps on youtube, he is screaming for attention and maybe if he paid a little more attention to his kid before she was a teenager she wouldnt be such a mess. for an it guy he should know the phrase "garbage in garbage out", i am sure glad my kids are grown and on their own, there is no way i would have let them near that guy. On the other hand though kids these days need a good whippin now and then, trouble is dad will get arrested, sure aint like the old days!

Parent of the Year or Gun Toting Nut Job?

Dad shoots daughter's laptop over Facebook comments - YouTube

I applaud this guy honestly..if you read the comments in other channel posts of this video (they are disabled on this one), some people are saying this is abuse or they assume the daughter is being abused and/or she's going to grow up to be anti-social. I disagree. She was on the right track to being a selfish, self-absorbed person and hopefully this gets through to her.

Amen. Saw this post, shared it to my friends, and was surprised at the amount of "omg, that poor girl" reactions. Seems most parents these days are a waste of breathable air...

I applaud the guy for a job well done. An object lesson that taught that every action you take has consequences (good or bad) - no spankings, no abuse, no stupid punishments, just straight and to the point common sense.

:hyper:

Several aspects of the dad's behaviour seem to be just screaming "wackjob" in this situation, so I guess it's no surprise if hsi daughter has a few issues of her own. No doubt she'll end up spawniing more of the same. The whole thing reminds me of this famous poem by Philip Larkin.

"This Be The Verse"

They **** you up, your mum and dad.
They may not mean to, but they do.
They fill you with the faults they had
And add some extra, just for you.

But they were ****** up in their turn
By fools in old-style hats and coats,
Who half the time were soppy-stern
And half at one another's throats.

Man hands on misery to man.
It deepens like a coastal shelf.
Get out as early as you can,
And don't have any kids yourself.

Yeah, after all, throwing a cigarette butt down on your own property is such a hideous crime against humanity. If he was foaming at the mouth, he'd have spanked her ass silly with a belt like another Texan whose video's gone viral - would you rather that happened?

After reading this thread I can't believe how far some of you people have your heads stuck in the sand, but I guess that Talkbass being Talkbass, we've got a pretty representative slice of humanity going around here so it shouldn't come as a surprise, but it did.

What part of "kids do not disrespect their parents/elders" do you not understand? If you'd bother to read the followup, you'd see that this wall post by the daughter was hidden from the parents and family by way of Facebook's privacy settings. Except their dog had a FB account too (which I consider to be stupid but that aside), and that one was not part of the blocked group, so when dad wanted to update that dog's FB page, he saw the post.

People already called the police and CPS on him. The cops gave him kudo's for a job well done, and CPS didn't see any reason to be involved, at all.

So... what should that tell you people who are now clamoring about how bad this dad is?

Yeah...

Let's look at this from another perspective.

If she had written what she did in a diary (does anyone even have those anymore?) would it be wrong for her to do so?

I think that twitter, facebook, blogs etc. are for many people, including and especially contemporary kids and teenagers, often the equivalent of what a diary was 40-50 years ago. Except, of course, that there are public aspects to it. But negotiating public vs. private space online is a tough issue even for supposedly mature adults.

I don't think kids should be disrespectful, and it is one of my greatest concerns with my own kids - but at the same time, they need to have an avenue to blow off steam and vent some of their frustrations, warranted or not.

I wonder where her dad is allowing her to have that space to do so?

All he did, was put the ball in her court. Its up to her to grow up or refuse.

If he wants her to grow up, he could start by acting like a grown up himself. Filiming yourself shooting a computer is pretty childish, IMO. I think looking her in the eye and laying down the law in a calm, but firm voice would do more than putting on an internet show for us to discuss.

What the ****. Is this guy ****ing insane? I just cannot even fathom why he could possibly think this is a good idea!?!?!

She throws a tantrum on the internet, and then you go out and do EXACTLY THE SAME THING. I wonder where she picked up her behaviour from?

Maybe try communicating, y'know, face to face, like real parents do? Actually talk to your child about the issues you have with her behaviour rather than flying off the handle on the internet, SHOOTING A LAPTOP!? and then showing her exactly the same disrespect you are complaining about yourself.

No wonder she is a self absorbed disrespectful snugglemuffin, her dad is exactly the same.

This.

I'm just curious what shooting her laptop accomplished that taking it away/selling it/giving it to charity wouldn't accomplish.

This video has been making it's rounds on facebook and I was arguing with a lady who said "It's not like he's beating her half to death, he just shot her laptop." Yup, he just shot her laptop. A lesser degree of violence is totally justified because it's not as bad as beating her, I guess.

Wasn't it Mike Tyson who said beating his girlfriend wasn't that bad because he never hit her with a closed fist?
