Dad Shoots Daughter's Laptop Over Facebook Post

I don't know enough history there, I don't what kind of 'gratitude' the daughter posted on her parents, or the extent of trying to get her to sweep a floor. Maybe the guy has just had enough of getting nowhere whatever way around it he has tried.
The daughter went on facebook and wrote that when her parents are old that she won't be around to take care of them because they're making her do chores. Why not humiliate her ? Such disrespect towards the people who truly love her. Sad.
There's a big difference between complaining and threatening to not take care of your parents when they're old. That was a horrible thing to write and it deserved a serious response. Nothin' like getting kicked in the teeth by your own child.
I don't think he was going for a match grade grouping. His wide group would assure that the laptop would be beyond repair.
I'd be willing to bet we all said something equally as mean when we were teenagers to someone in our family. It's acually pretty normal. The difference is we didn't have facebook to spew our stupidity on. There seems to be a lot of TBers with really short memories. No one seems to remember how they acted when they were young. Or they rewrite history and talk about how mature and well- behaved they were from day one.
I do understand that, I remember saying similar stuff to my father when I was a teen (about not taking care of him when he gets old etc). But my dad had enough sense to know I was being affected by puberty (as is this guy's daughter) and that my mood swings and attitude would disappear as I grew up, and sure enough it did. It's not that my actions went without punishment, he just never had to go to this extreme (I mentioned previously that he gave me a one month grounding when I was 14 for taking his car for a drive, this guy grounded his daughter for 3 months for posting something similar on facebook previously. I don't think my father was all too strict, but he wasn't lenient with me either. Three months is way too much for 'the crime' and to alienate your child from her friend's for 1/4 of a year in her developing stages is not really a good idea. These are the years she learns many social skills).
Plus, I think what he has done now is more than pay-back for a kick in the teeth over a Facebook post that only her friends could see. He has made a video that humiliates his daughter that has now been viewed by millions of people from around the world. The saddest and most common comment I think I see is 'He should not be shocked when he finds out his daughter is working the poles in Vegas'. This sort of innueno is very damaging to the growth and development of his daughter's self esteem, especially at the age she is.
And amongst all the publicity and cyber-scrutiny, he STILL hasn't deleted the video yet. I even sent him a PM on youtube advising him to delete the video.
This has gone beyond teaching his daughter a lesson. I'm starting to feel like I am sounding like a broken record...
I acted up and they made me pay the price. Lesson learned. They didn't quite do that with my brother and he didn't learn the lesson.
Uh, really? You're saying that you can't possibly fathom why he chose to destroy the laptop as opposed to, say, punching a hole in a random wall?
THIS I've never understood about teenagers. I never had "mood swings" when I was going through puberty, and I felt no need to do any of the crazy crap teenagers do. I think everyone uses puberty or "hormones" as an excuse for bad behavior. Either that or they don't have enough of a brain to keep the "hormones" in check.
Yup. Anyone who think HIS behaviour is excusable is crazy. If this is how he behaves normally, then no wonder she turned out the way she did. It's all his fault, maybe he should have shot himself. (I'm not serious, of course) At the very least this guy should not be allowed to own a gun, ever again.

15 year olds **** up and do stupid stuff. Adults SHOULD be mature enough to know better.
Besides, respect has to be earned, and in the case of your children it has to be taught. Respect, especially in a family environment, is a mutual relationship. You want your children to respect you? Show them the same respect. The people who love her? Loving parents don't do things like this, self absorbed egomaniacs do.
And did he really think that all those years down the track she would still be thinking "Hell I'm gonna let my parents rot, they made me do chores"? She'll probably be over that next week.
I can guarantee you in 30 years time she'll be thinking "Man, my dad really was an ******* shooting my laptop and posting it on youtube".
I hate that people think they have the ultimate knowledge in everything. And that the media can take anything and make you think a certain way.
If this video wouldn't have gone viral the few people that looked at it would have very different opinions.
I saw it before it was on the news or internet forums everywhere. I thought, yea I can see where hes coming from. People are emotional creatures, you give birth to this human being and people around the world would KILL to be in their position, but there ungrateful for everything. While the parents break their back to provide for someone who couldn't give a damn. So the guy looses his cool, big deal. In the normal world this can happen. He didn't harm the child physically. Yea he knew he would embarrass them, Id be embarrassed if my daughter went off on my to all my friends and family for being ungrateful. So he taught her a lesson in how it felt.
What you guys never got whiped in front of your friend/s or maybe never told no? Well maybe I'm the only one.
Sure he could have done somethings better, he DIDN'T know it was going to go viral. You guys never regretted ANYTHING you did huh? Couldn't have raised your kids a little better? Well I guess in your perfect little world, you would have a nice chit chat with the daughter over some tea give her a new smart phone and and send her on her way. Yea thats how kids learn..
