D'addario .145 B string

I was skeptical with such a big gauge, but i am sick of flabby B strings or adjusting my touch on one string....well I don't need to worry anymore. It feels taught like an E string (105) and is not cumbersome to play, sounds very articulate and sets up lower than any previous B I tried,. Anyone on the fence about trying it, I say do it.

I agree. I have them as my B string on my Lakland Skylines 55-64 and fretless 55-60. Feels like a normal E string and sounds great. Not sure why it's not more popular

actually no it did not...I just sized up and did a test fit and basically dropped right in. if it did need any widening it would be so minimum, coming from a .130.

No thanks - I like my 130TW. I like my B string (& E @ 105) a bit more loose for all the bends one can do.

I've gone up to a .118 for my E string before. If I had a 5er I would probably go just as heavy as you.

Yep, it was a roundcore string though. Right now I'm using a .105 flatwound E and the tension is about the same.

I did the . 145 along with the balanced tension set. It works great.

.140-145" B is about right to match up with a .105" E IME. Glad you found one you like!

Yeah, I remember someone told me to move up to an .150 Low B to match up the .110 E string. But for me .150 is too much

I use a .135 as a G# on my 5ers. I've been looking for something bigger. This sounds promising. Except it's not a top loading bridge, so it might not even fit, the .135 barely fits, sort of.

yea that will be tough, I should note I got the taper because of a top loading bridge that I have fought a 130 non taper into at times.

The same D'addario in a 130 has been my go to string for any floppy B candidates. I like to string through the bridge on the B and E even on a 35" scale sometimes or on all the strings to get the string tension as even as possible. Their super Longs are good for that

Definitely something that varies from bass to bass, but I string my Lakland 5ers (35 inch scale) through the body (extra long for all, taper on the .145 B). Probably a lot more tension than most people would prefer, but for me the LaBella Jamerson flats are normal for my 4 string Precision.

Plus 1 on the balanced tension sets, but I went with the .135 (untapered), as it matched the lighter tensions of the set.

ETA: I prefer to match tensions vs. matching gauges. One mans .130 could be a 28 lb. tension vs. another man's 36 lbs.
