Quite noticable. I like nickel hardware just because of that color difference.

Christmas has come early! I just moved a bunch of my old gear out of a jam space (a friends dank basement). This stuff hasn't been seriously touched in 3 years or so, at least. The plan is to go through it all, sell what I don't need anymore, keep what still brings a smile to my face. Whilst digging through a gig bag I came across a pack of Hartke strings that I bought as a cheap "just in case" set. And I'm on the fence about selling a bass I don't play much any more, I know the strings on it are dead, I figure sure I'll throw them on. I open the box and feel them...... TEN DOLLAR FLAT WOUNDS?!?!? I could have sworn that they were rounds when I bought them? I quick do a search here to see if anyone had info on this amazing deal, I mean come on. Who wouldn't like cheap flats? Upon opening the box fully I realize they are a set of Chromes I took of my practice bass long enough ago to forget doing it. So they're like a free pack. Just figured I'd share that story with ya'll.
New Chromes user as well here, went from TI flats to Chromes ECB84 looking for a bit more tension and something new tone-wise.
Very balanced set, VERY bright out of the box (almost roundwound bright), we'll see how they age.

That's how i discovered them, on a used bass back in '05. Still got that set!
A cheap micrometer is the only way i know of, for finding out string gauge.
Update: I just pieced together a semi-balanced set of Chromes from the 'used string file' for my J Bass, using the .105 from one set with the lighter gauge 45-100 strings, making a 45-65-80-105 fully broken-in set. The 65 being the only one that has slightly more tension.
Anyway, they sound and feel so good! Can't remember why I ever quit using them?!

Can I get a number? Here's what happened. It's almost 3:00am local time and I just finished installing my first ever set of Chromes and I LOVE 'EM! I graduated from a constant Ernie Balls or D'Addario Nickel Wounds so this is like a whole new world of possibilities for me. The higher tension of these flats got me to tighten the truss rod due to high action above the 12th fret, but aside from that everything feels perfect.
I play heavy punk transitioning to metalcore and I CANNOT wait to hear these babies growl in drop C#. These are gauge 45-100, by the way.

Purchased Chromes (the 50-105 set) today and put them on as soon as I was back from the store. So far, so good. I've been going back and forth between flats and rounds for years, but I think I'm into flats for good now. Always miss them when they aren't on. When I started playing in the 1960s about the only strings you could find were the La Bella 760s. I started with them and loved them though the are HEAVY. What led to the latest switch was an acoustic bass guitar with flats on it that I bought a few years back. I played it a lot because to practice I didn't have to bother with an amp. Dug the flats more and more. A few months back I put a set of Fender 9050s (I think 55-110) on my '66 precision and they were fine. Needed another set to put on my '75 because I want to use it this Thursday on a gig and when I picked it up (hadn't used it for a while) I HATED the rounds. Called a few stores, couldn't find the 9050s and decided to try the Chromes. I'm glad I did. Liked 'em as soon as I put them on. Over time I'll decide which I like more. For sure the chromes are a little smoother and that gives them the advantage so far.
I recently put them back on my 96 EBMM SR-4.....yep that's the sound i remember. My taste in tone has evolved over the years and my old Stingray can be a bit harsh and twangy, so I have not played it out in a while. But with a well broken in set of chromes it seems just perfect, however I will have to readjust to the higher tension.

Chromes are all I use on my basses. A few years ago I hard a set of TI's on one bass with Chromes on the rest but only chromes for me now. I use med gauge.
What I like a lot with these strings is the strong attack when played with a pick. It gives à lot of punch.
I've got chromes on my Fender Hot Rod Precision. I like everything about them.
I got a Squier VM fretless that had TIs on it, and with the thin profile neck and fretless they work OK there, but I would not want that feel on my P. A little too rubber bandy.
I just finished a Warmoth Gecko 5 build with a Korina body, wenge neck and ebony fretboard and I initially put DR Pure blues on it, but I just ordered a 5 string set of Chromes (@Rip Topaz Amazon prime!).
The DRs are fine but I'd like to use the Gecko in my blues band and with the EMG40TWX pickups the Chromes will give me the sounds I need.
I also like to use D'Addario strings whenever I can because they're local to me. I think I can almost see their building from my office.

While not my main string (D'A halfwounds) I have in the last year come to like chromes. I've got a set on my Ibanez Artcore, and while I liked the bass already, the chromes made me love it.
I have a Epi Viola with LaBella's on it, I had the opportunity to put chromes on my son-in-laws Epi Viola and hear them side by side. While the LaBella's really capture that McCartney sound, I think the Chromes are more versitile for modern music, they can really brighten up with the tone control.
D'A's are also my primary guitar strings.

I usually use D’addalio strings for my Freedom 5 strings bass guitar.
Recently there seems variations in quality. Sometimes life is very short and sound is not bright.
Are they produce not in USA but in China or somewhere?

I can't help you as to D'Addario per se, but in addition to yours I can offer a couple "lateral" hypotheses:
-counterfeit D'Addarios exist - maybe not your case if you got your sets from stores, but they are around apparently;
-body chemistry is also subject to change - changes in your diet and other factors can effect changes in the acidic content of your sweat;
-bad strings (/bad batches too?) do happen from time to time - bad luck too, so you might have been singularly unlucky in picking a strain of duds...

D'Addario strings are very consistent! Even if a person doesn't like them as their "personal favorite" (which is totally fine), real USA made D'Addario strings should always last long and be high quality.
There are a lot of counterfeit Chinese made strings of dubious quality out there! Seeing as that you are in Japan, I would think the risk is higher being so close to China. All genuine D'Addario strings are made in the USA, none are made in China.

Put the Chromes on my Warmoth Gecko today, very nice. B sounds great, overall sound is much more what I wanted out of this bass. Now I need to mess around in Bias and JamUp and find some good amps for it.
Hey @Rip Topaz thanks BIG TIME for the tip of using naphtha to clean the strings, lots of black gunk on the paper towel.
