D'Addario Chromes User Group- Chromeys Speak Out!

Just bought a set of chromes early last week and decided to wait until they're broken in to post here. I have to say that they're pretty great! I'm having fun playing them on my warwick (rockbass) corvette- the deeper sound and smooth feel are great and remind me of an upright bass. I did notice, though, that i get some fret buzz when i play (especially with a pick) would playing with the truss rod help with that? 'cause once i get that figured out these will be just about perfect.
Yes it probably would.
It's always worth doing a set up when you change the strings, relief, action, intonation and don't forget to establish the witness points.
I had to loosen the truss rod about 3/8 of a turn when I went to chromes, they must have had less tension than the (unknown) strings they replaced.
Alright thanks, man! I haven't had my warwick for too long so it still has its original strings which should be the warwick black labels. Anyway, i'll give adjusting the truss rod a try and see how that goes.

I just put them on my Am St P 5-string. The .045 set. The D string barely made it strung through-body. I like the friction on the left hand, as I was trying to make the poly finished neck less slippery with sweaty fingers, but I don't like the higher tension and more friction from a right hand perspective. Time will tell. Tone is great. I got these because I thought TIs would be too floppy but these are tighter than I thought they'd be.
I was about to buy 6 Super Long Scale Pro-Steel singles 30~135 when I received email from BSO informing the availability of the exclusive Super Long Scale high C Chrome. Moreover Chrome was (and currently still) on sale. So I emptied my cart and switched my order to Chrome.
It hasn't arrived yet. International shipment could take 2 weeks up to a month.
I always used half/rounds - and was introduced to chrome flat wounds by accident. I purchased a Fender Modern Player Jaguar - it was used and strung with chrome flats - I was blown away by the clarity and response - so much so that when I changed the strings on my precision - I chose chrome flats for it as well. I don't usually get excited about strings, but there were very good.
Saw a deal on the .132 B string on Amazon and bought a couple to fill out two 4 string sets I had. Decided to replace the strings on my Carvin 5 string fretless I built from a kit. It had Rotosounds on it before. I was considering selling it as it really didn't make it for me, but with the chomes in it probably not. Sounds awesome. b string much fuller. I had to forego thru body because the ball ends wouldn't fit. Once again very happy with my neighbor's strings...
Anyone ordered a set of balanced 40/55/75/95 before?
Like to know if they still have that bright zingy clacky tone out of the package?

I've got that very set waiting to try on my P Bass, replacing TI Flats that I love everything about except the excessive mids. The TIs are perfect for that bass, if you are one who likes that sound...just not sure that's me.
OK, just swapped out the strings...bright & zingy for sure, clacky...not as much. Got a feeling the G string will stay zingy for quite a while. The E is already mellowing, not a whole lot of lows so far. The tension is more than the TIs but surprisingly, not THAT much more.
You are right. I thought that E would have lower tension than the others, but the difference is less than I thought.
Damn.
Going to have to soak them in some lotion overnight when they arrive. I hate that about chromes.
I used to use Aquaphor on mine, but now I just let them age naturally. The 'Aquaphored' ones would get TOO dead after a while.
After playing these for about an hour, they range from 'zingy' (G) to 'already getting kinda thumpy' (E).
Did I mention I love my Chromes? My Chromes-strung P-bass sounds great, even when slapped! Now I just need to learn to slap properly, after 25 years of playin'...
They also produce a nice growl, when played aggressively with fingers or a pick.

Funny that my complaint is the opposite, I'd like a lighter gauge B than 132, but they do play well on a fretless!
