Damnation Audio Fan/Appreciation Thread

Ok so I've missed the boat on these having taken a break from playing for a few years. Now I keep seeing the MBD-1 or 2 on almost every board! I'm trying to decide between buying the 1 or the 2. The bottom line on these seems to be that most people like the 1 better but like the 2 for the form factor. Am I mistaken?

I get that. I'm wondering why people chose one over the other. Most people report getting the same tones from both but at different settings. Is that only because of the trimpots in the 1?

I’m not sure exactly. Maybe different style pots. Either way you can get all the same tones from one as the other. The rest is personal preference for either aesthetics or already having the 1 and “getting used to” the 2. Since you have no experience with either personally, go with the one that you think will look best on your pedalboard. The only thing you could say that is different is the boost is now a switch on the outside opposed to a trim on the inside but essentially they accomplish the same task.

Thank you that sums it up perfectly for someone new to MBD. I'll definitely try to get my hands on one soon, the samples really do sound incredible!

Whatever you think an overdriven bass should sound like, you will accomplish with this pedal. If you can’t, you either like bad tones or weren’t patient enough.

That's the key I think. I'm really thankful that Greg insisted I try the MBD. Initially I wasn't sure, and none of the demos I watched gave me anything I liked, but once I really sat with it and learned what it could do, it was more than GOOD ENOUGH.

Haha I'm not worried at all about the tones! While it's not the same flavor of distortion than a B3K, hearing the demos of the MBD-1 reminds a lot of about 10 years ago how I HAD to try a B3K.

I don't think the B3K was either. It's like the BDDI in that it stood the test of time for many folks. I no longer have it(I actually destroyed mine by attempting to put a green LED in it!), but I also went and tried the MBD-1 and although it was a bit too dark for me, it sounded excellent.

I finally wound up using an amp and a touch of Reiner Gasoline to get my dirt now. But I know the MBD-1 and Gasoline work well together.

Two simple observations:
1. Your bass through the MBD sounds like your bass.
2. Your bass through a Darkglass pedal sounds like Darkglass.

Interpret that as you may for good or ill, but I'd argue that the better something maintains the character of what is fed into it, the less likely it is to end up going in and out of fashion.

Never liked the B3K. This isn’t a fad.

Almost every pedal here becomes a fad at some point. Soon enough something new will be released and everyone will try it and say it's the next big thing. Whether you personally liked the B3K or not, to call it a fad is not representative of it's enduring quality I believe. I was mostly just referring to the "I gotta have this pedal" type of feeling back then, that I'm having with the MBD. But I get that it might not have been your thing!

Quick question gang : where would you put an Octaver pedal when using the Damnation blender ?

I am wondering if it would be wiser to keep the octaver BEFORE the blender (in witch my overdrive/fuzz/distortion will go), or first IN the blender loop.

Receiving an OC5 very soon, looking forward to see how the two combine for huge body in the sound

I guess it would depend on the octaver. Depending on how well it tracks, having a clean low might be helpful. I personally run mine before the loop, but I don’t have any tracking issues to consider.

It’s something anyway. Just a quick demo I did around the settings I prefer. I switched the depth on maybe halfway though and it started clipped. Hopefully it doesn’t sound bad.

actually I switched it in on at like 55 seconds. You can def tell. And pay no mind to the last like 10 seconds. I switched my brown acid fuzz on. Just cause.

Damn but that first half is tasty... reminds me a bit of Justin chancellors tone - still your tone but with a massive grainy crunch that still has clarity... sounds pretty good there!
