I know that feeling well. I used to live for GAS and anticipation of a new pedal or piece of gear in the mail. Nowadays I rarely get that fired up about anything. When you try as many pedals as a lot of us end up trying over the years, and you end up settling on certain things for a while, it’s like, I’m set ya know? I’ll never be “set” like all the way haha but I’ll say this, GAS rarely gets me anymore.

I actually run my OC5 first in my chain and in running through the thru on my bloop. So I’m not blooping it. It sounds great imo. YMMV. But just keep trying ya know. That’s the thing with pedal chain order to begin with, it’s different for everyone. So try it a few different ways.

Well I’ll take that all day, thanks man! Haha I’m a big fan of my high end clarity. JC’s been a big influence on my tone for a long time.

Gotta agree there. Darkglass sorta set a new standard for metal bass tones. It’s just reality. I can’t call that a fad. I still love DG and they make awesome stuff. I just kinda grew away from their sounds tonally. I used to love the DG sound. The baked in mid curves though just worn on my ears for the type of styles I’ve been playing the last few years. I still have the X7, that’s a really cool one. Wish I would’ve held onto my original alpha/omega. I really liked that one a lot. I’d probably still be using that one even maybe. But yeah, DG is awesome. Just sorta moved to a different tonal county so to speak.

Back in ~2014 I kinda felt that way too, almost "set". Or close enough that I could get away from buying every new pedal. And then I got away from playing at all the last 3 years since I had a kid. Getting back into the game is fun but I'm not looking to overhaul everything on my board again!

Finally got around to A/B'ing the 1 & 2.
Didn't try to see how much they match up with multiple tones, so I decided to leave the 2 in my favourite setting, then try to match it with the 1.
To my ears, they're really damn close.
The difference would be indistinguishable in a band setting, in my estimation.

That I can sort of agree on. That character of the MBD-1 can be just that. My bass sounds like my bass going through my Peavey MarkIV, just a much better grindier version of it.

I would say that also applies less to the VMT than any of their pedals. Both the B#K and X7 series have some very steep midrange curves, whereas The low-mid "push" of the VMT is very amp-like by comparison to their others. The MBD-1 is much flatter.

What I do like about companies like Damnation Audio is that Jeff is still cranking out new analog overdrives! I'm not huge into digital overdrives. Wide open everywhere else, though(delay, reverb...etc)
