Ok so I’ve been a massive supporter of the mbd 1 ever since I got it… but haven’t played live since 2017. Been used at band practice a lot and very gnarly but when it’s through my cab or the practice Pa at really low volume it’s hard to get the full effect…
first gig 2 days ago straight out of my head’s DI to the PA… and holy hell I thought I was going to blow it up… so so heavy.
My usual is the cog mini 66 which sounds very mid focused and clanky. And then I turned on the mbd1 and it just brought the boom…
So thank you @father of fires - I know I’ve talked it up a lot every time in here… but nothing can replace a low B into the mbd1 at full bore for me now!

Have now spent some more time with the Dirt Fixer. I wanted to try the DF since I've been using a Bloop/Rusty Box as my always-on tone for a couple years. The DF is far more flexible, obviously. That said, I'm sticking with the Bloop on my board for the Rusty Box.
If I were using something less suited to bass, I might hop to the Dirt Fixer to be able to really sculpt things. With the RB, I felt like the 4 band EQ was not needed for the wet side, and I actually prefer how the low passed bloop signal complements the RB, compared to the DF's contoured signal. Will likely hang on to the DF, since it really opens up opportunities to explore dirt that is not suited for bass out of the box. Kinda cool that they are branches on the same tree, while both having some unique qualities that make them better suited for certain applications...

Just because it’s called the Dirt Fixer, Don’t forget to try it on envelope filters.
BP and HP envelope filters become usable, awesome even, in a contoured blender.
For sure! I will say that those aren't uses for my live setup at all, but will definitely be things I try when I'm just playing around with pedals. Point being, for dirt-specific applications there is a ton of overlap, but each has it's own unique strengths depending on the dirt.
I would add that even with some of my fuzzes, the DF gave me the sort of tone shaping I want with a muff-style fuzz. With the RB, I really like the voicing of the pedal and just wanted to add back a touch of the low/low-mid punch that gets lost with the grind/upper-mid boost that's characteristic of the pedal.

Dig your taste on the RB. I’m the same way. It’s one of the ones that hasn’t left my board since I got it.
If I recall, there was some chatter a while back about an MBD with a second footswitch for boost. Or maybe one designed as if it were 1979. Or maybe they were the same idea. Any rumblings on these things?

the vintage styled mbd is a passion project and will happen eventually. Dave and I are working on what the next pedals might be. Perhaps we'll have something to say come august.
I agree that we might say things about pedals in August...
A combo MBD and Sick Set Dude would be amazeballs, as the kids say.
I had the Bloop for a while and loved it when I was using my Oxford on bass. Now I have the same Peavey amp Billy Gould used and a Reiner Gasoline that I love.
The Dirtfixer and the samples on Jeff's page were too much for me to skip out on(example: he made that lowly Boss DS-1 sound like a Darkglass pedal). I can't wait to hear it with the Gasoline and more.

A big part of what we're trying to do with Dirtfixer is give folks a way to turn some of these inexpensive forgotten pedals into real firebreathers and total workhorses on bass. I LOVE Boss pedals and its a real delight to be able to turn $30 DS1s and SD1s into serious contenders for bass drive.
Dirtfixer will obviously sound great with any other gear you already like on bass while giving you extra flexibility and utility but its tough to beat getting an incredible new bass sound from a pedal you would have never chosen before.
Yeah, def part of the appeal is no guitar pedal will be safe. Just like when I had the BLOOP but even better.
It’s been a minute. Should be starting a new project soon. Did Damnation ever make an MBD-1 with a second gain channel yet? Or a Bloop with a noise gate? That’s all I’ve ever wanted.
