I’m not crazy enthusiastic about the scorpion, I prefer the curmudgeon 2 vs it, but I really want to try dystopia. I prefer Broughton for preamp emulations and filters

Haven't tried the C2, but I understand it to be a higher gain pedal.

I love the Scorpion for low gain OD tones.
A spot initially held by the MBD.
Now, that doesn't mean I no longer love my MBD pedals.
It just means they serve a different role.
They are more the medium gain spot.
Think "Jason Newsted/Voivod" bass tone.

Josh's Filter FX Loop one of the best loop blenders on the market. It uses an HPF before the loop, LPF after the loop and an LPF for the clean signal. It's a very powerful tool like the Dirt Fixer. I put them both at the top for loop blenders.

Yeah. I moved away from my MBD2 a while ago, was thinking of snagging another, but I think I'll just grab this when it comes out. Having a second stage is awesome as long as it's usable.

Same, I moved on from my MBD-2 in a huge sale of pedals I had last December, debated getting another but the new one seems awesome, would rather just have that

Damnation makes the best bass dirt and blender hands down

Not looking to start any arguments, but I'd add Josh Broughton's name to the list.

Respectfully, I think Damnation dirt boxes are a full tier above all the Broughton dirt I’ve tried. And the heavier/meaner I need my dirt to feel, the more the gap widens.

I may be an anomaly when it comes to blenders, though. I acknowledge that the Dirt Fixer and FFXL have far more tweaking options, but the OG Bloop has some special sauce. It’s HOF status on my board…

They are very different business models. Damnation Audio is like 3 Leaf Audio in that it curates a small product line and refines its designs over time. That's why the MBD-3 is coming and a 1979 variant is also in the works, and it's why the Dirt Fixer has emerged from the Bloop. Broughton Audio, on the other hand, is like Fuzzrocious in that it offers wide range of products with new designs regularly being released. (I'm not saying these pairs of companies are identical in other ways: clearly Damnation Audio does a much better job keeping inventory in stock than 3 Leaf Audio, and Broughton and Fuzzrocious have refined some designs--the Messenger Jr. and Dark Driving 3 disprove such an idea--but rather using these to build out the differences I am highlighting.)

That said, I sort of agree with you. All the Damnation dirt I've tried has been excellent. The Broughton dirt with genuine tube circuits are unmatched (Sunray, Quicksilver, etc.) and some of the others excellent (Sentinel, Calamity, etc.), but many of the others cannot compete with Damnation products. Insert all the usual disclaimers, YMMV, etc.

Or simply the 3rd iteration of the MBD?
And the MBD-1979 being a separate pedal still in the works?

The retro pedal is a different design. Coming eventually.

Jeff teased a new MBD design in [Invalid or Expired Link Removed] and talked about the 1979 in [Invalid or Expired Link Removed].

The idea was simply an MBD if it had been made in the seventies. Vintage parts and vintage circuit concepts. It's grown legs a bit. The working title is now the Retro BD. It'll be more of a hand built small batch special run sort of thing. Not a regular product.

In 1979 pedal distortions did not use tubes, but distortion through an amp did... any chance that means the circuit will involve NOS 12AX7, 12AT7, 6AL5, or some other tube?

Any idea yet on the distortion side, and what will produce the clipping?

Sold my bloop after buying DirtFixer. I sometimes think about that lil guy, but I’m waiting for the bloop reissue with the Damnation Audio Bass Contour™

I do miss the small size of the bloop, but the extra features on DirtFixer are worth it for me.

I get my low gain from preamps usually, and then it’s either that tone or intensely high gain

For what it’s worth, the four band EQ on the Dirtfixer is fantastic. Even with nothing in the loop, I’d keep it on my board just for tone sculpting.
