Damnation Audio Fan/Appreciation Thread

I’ve only spent a few minutes with the MBD so I can’t say much yet. Sounds really good. I used to kick on the AO to get the MBD-1 into high gain territory and the boost seems to do that effectively. That was my big hope. It’s a great update to my favorite dirt pedal.

Im definitely keeping the 1 too. :D
Yep. The 3 is great but it doesn’t replace
My OG.

A few more insights on the MBD.

This pedal is filthy! There is so much gain on tap with the boost. I love it. It can definitely do low gain very well too as with the original.

The boost seems to pick up where the drive leaves off. Like they are cascaded or something. Very useful and intuitive design. Also the boost doesn’t add a massive volume spike. It does get louder when kicked on but it’s not off the charts. Again very useful.

Tone knob seems to be the same as the MBD-1. I usually keep it close to the middle +/- a little. Sounds great that way.

I don’t have a good sense of the difference between the clean blends. I need to spend a little more time with it but it does what I expect it to and sounds great.

So far Im loving it. I don’t have experience with a lot of dirt pedals. I just want to find something great and be done with it. The first version was that pedal for me 5 years ago and the new one lives up to my expectations plus the well designed boost feature makes it that much more versatile.

Nice job team Damnation!

dirt fixer straight in for gig this friday! love the Blender but this is a big time upgrade! it has my ml5 in the loop and fixes the Bongripper, Ehx nyc big muff, Moose Cosmic trigger and Stone Deaf Fig fumb v2 looking forward to gigging!

Mbd3 is waiting till next week to go on in its own loop as another sound......sounds great!

So I spent some time with the 3 today. Mmm. It’s good. It’s more similar to the 1 in my ear opposed to the 2. The 2 is still great, don’t get me wrong. But the 3 feels and sounds more like the 1. Especially with the boost. I love the boost so far. I didn’t like it much on the 2. But a lot of that has to do with my setup. The 3 is smoother, more balanced feeling, if that makes sense?

idk if it’ll swap the 1 out. But I’m going to try it for now. But so far, so friggen good. The guts are beautiful too. Great job guys!

I’ll also add, the slighter smaller enclosure, I think I can fit another pedal on there now haha

I’ve been so out of the game for a while, idk what I’d put there. Does anyone have exp with the boss slicer rerelease (the SL2)? I’m about to ditch it because of the amount of gain it pitches into my signal chain. It’s slams like a bull. Can’t seem to get rid of that…..

Sorry for the Damnation derail. Thought it may spark a conversation. And I want a solution to my problem ;)

Had my first live jam with the 3 last night. Its performed as expected, wonderfully. Boost still isn't as useable, for me, in my situation. But I may change some things up on my board at some point so that may change. I was very pleased with it though. I always have a rusty box capture going in my chain from the Quad Cortex and I think I'm going to try it disengaged for a while. See if I like it. I have my X band EQ on all the time as well so that'll stay on. But I think running the rusty box capture while I'm stacking dirts or use the boost in the 3, it just turns to mush. So I'm probably going to change it up again.

Curious how you’re running the MBD and RB? My MBD-3 is before my Rusty Box/Bloop, and they pair incredibly well with the 3’s boost on or off. I find the RB actually keeps the volume in check for minor volume differences earlier in the chain and adds some clarity.

I put my 3 before it as well. But I have that 10 EQ after it as well. I think having both those in the chain active at the same time is the issue for me. I def have plenty of clarity, that's for sure. But I think it's just too much gain in my chain. As usual haha its a hard habit for me to break. Been doing it for years.

I have the same problem @gregmon79 I like keeping things on the edge of breakup.

Me too. I like bringing the clarity with the headroom. But if I stack anything, it's always been this way for me (reason being I've never been a big stacker) it just goes to mush and or feeds back in the worse way you can think of. Even just the MBD by itself will feedback on me at certain times (just the OD, no boost) with my PJ bass and other times with my ATK depending.

I also noticed too, I need to reset my pickup height on my PJ. I noticed it at that last practice. I need to redo the holes where the pickup screws set. I've swapped pups so many times in that bass, the holes are worn and the pickups are all wonky in height. So that may have something to do with it as well. It's crazy how fast you can get out of practice with all this stuff. I used to mess and play with my basses and boards daily. Now I'm lucky if I get to them twice a month. I need to do a lot of housekeeping, check patches, reattach some stuff, rerun some things.....its been too long :( :help::help::help:

I have been experimenting hard out with the 20db boost on my MBD2 in an effort to try to slow my Gas for a 3. I really am trying to slow my spending these days and I love my 2 so much. I currently use an Alpha Omicron for the heavy gain pedal stacked with the light drive on the MBD2. Sounds immense. The boost switch does as well, and if i had my way again, I would just get a MBD3 and be done but honestly I have decided to keep it with the 2 and AO. The AO has a few tricks extra as well that are cool which is another reason to keep it around.

I was worried when I got the Jad Freer Capo that it would replace the MBD2 but no way! Together is the best tone i have ever had though. FOMO is a really strong thing but I am gonna keep fighting the urge for now!
