Damnation Audio Fan/Appreciation Thread

I got some notice from USPS saying I need to add more postage. It must be the address I'm at now. I've had this happen twice with USPS since I've been here. I have a feeling the town I live in has odd land lines. If I put my address in, it'll auto guess my address, which is correct, but it always comes up in the town right next to me. Makes me think the apt complex I live in straddles the line of the 2 towns. But it's def frustrating. Now I'm not sure when my 3 will be here.

USPS sucks now :vomit: I used to use them all the time for shipping and rec pedals, which used to be quite a lot. Rarely had issues over a handful of years. Now it seems like every other thing I use them for, there's some kind of issue that either delays shipping or asks me for more money to complete the shipment. It's gotta be my location/address...

Let us know how you like it compared to your MBD-1 and MBD-2.
I'm planning on grabbing one too once I sell some of my stuff.

Maybe a dumb question here but how does the new MBD stack with an MBD-2??? In context say using the MBD-2 for always on slightly overdriven then going into the new MBD?

Or is it irrelevant now the new MBD has the boost feature?
Can’t speak to the stacking, as I no longer own an MBD2, but the footswitchable boost on the v3 absolutely allows you to use it for both light, always-on drive, as well as boosting into heavier territory. This is more or less my use case.

My settings more or less look like this:

Still some unclarity on my side with comaprision between MBD-2 (I have) and MBD-3 (I consider).
a) The boost switch on second iteration is 20 dB and in the new version there is adjustable one with up to 30 dB - does it mean the circuit is capable of even lower gain settings, with max boost kicked in ending up at the same territory or is it enhanced on the upper side, meaning there are simply extra 10 dB of boost?
b) Clean vs Blend - So now this knob acts as a "cross fader" of dirt and clean as opposed to the previous adding clean signal? And then the Volume knob is overall volume or volume of the OD signal only? The clean signal is generally treated the same way? I mean low pass filtered.. (the description of knobs on Damnation Audio site is quite misleading - probably gain=drive, level=volume and clean=blend)
c) Does anybody of early adopters of the new version miss the other (300Hz) setting of the Tone control?

Thanks for any input. I was thinking recently to get some light drive to co-operate with MBD-2, but maybe this could work better and keep the sound coherent..

The way I read the description on the DA site is: "Volume" sets the level of distortion channel, "Blend" sets the level of the clean channel. I might be completely wrong, though.

Edit: the designer promised to update the manual-see the post No. 5264

The gain toggle on MBD2 is a fixed boost. The Boost control on MBD is variable so its kind of a whole different control scheme. You choose the amount of gain and the amount of boost you want. When you're already distorting something the exact dB levels aren't so important. The math is just different between the two designs so the amount of boost is different.

The blend control works the same as it always has. Just has a different name we thought would make more sense to people. Turn the knob up to add a parallel clean signal to your drive tone.

Thanks for your reply. So, the drive (gain) without boost switched on acts equally as in MBD2, right? (well, minus the 300/600Hz toggle for the tone control) And the adjustable boost gives broader sonic palette...
Anyway, why was the 300Hz switch option abandoned?

Edit: If I decide to get it, I have to wait till it will be available by Europe distributors.. I mean EU.

When you enter a partnership you take the good with the bad. For better or worse. All controls are the same but the nomenclature is a marriage of what Dave and I call things.

Or else it would be like moving in together but only keeping one person's stuff.

My crime is remembering these changes when drafting the manual.

How does the boost on the MBD(3) work? Does it increase output volume of the unit or does it just increase the saturation of the drive channel? Or is it mix of both? In other words: if the boost control is maxed, does it result in 30db increase in output volume..or is the increase smaller?

Thx

boost goes into the drive, increases saturation not volume. Doesn't boost clean channel

The overall output level is certainly impacted by the Boost knob setting.

That's what I thought...but I assume maxing the boost does not raise the overall output of the unit by 30db..corect?

I haven't paid attention to the clean blend but I'm assuming it doesn't get louder with the Boost s

The web page states the following:

"Boost: Adds additional boosted signal into gain stages. Does not affect the clean blend circuitry."

I haven't measured the output change but I'm fairly confident that the output doesn't go from unity to +30dB. It gets noticeably louder at bedroom/studio volume (I haven't used it in a full band live setting) but the jump isn't wild. The boost is pre clipping and the clipping naturally provides compression/limiting.
