So hold up... this thing is like an MBD1? I've had a 2 and the 3 is an always on pedal for me. Slamming this into a Traynor YBA300 sounds absolutely KILLER.

I have an MDB. I've recently really liked the tone I get with a 70's Jazz through the pedal with the drive all the way up, tone at noon and no contoured blend or depth. How close can the BPD be set to a similar tone?

My bad. I should have been more specific.
1. Where would the drive have to be set on a BPD to match the saturation of the gain maxed on a MBD (no boost)?
2. At this level of drive, is the overall tonal balance (bass: mids: treble) similar to your clean tone, or is it brighter?

BPD is going to sound quite a bit different. Dramatically less tone shaping in that pedal and the EQ is going to be nothing like the MBD. You may get a similar amount of distortion but that's like 10% of the equation.
One thing I've learned from using the MBDs, BPD, and Retro BD - if you have to ask if there's too much stort, there's not enough - add more stort.
PErsonally I find the BPD to be a better all around pedal than the MBD (of which I've had the first two versions). Easier to dial in, simple set and forget. I personally like less options so that's probably why I feel this way.
Found a Bass Mod Parallel Drive and had to jump on it... this thing is gnarly! Going to have to try running it into my MBD and vice versa. Been running a dirt fixer with a Retro Bass Distortion (I swap that in and out w the MBD sometimes) + Fuzzrocious Bongripper for a while.
Tried a bunch of dirt pedals and different routing...

I still have mine. It sat in a drawer for a while and plugged in a couple weeks ago. Great dirt box. Gets really grindy while still retaining lows well. Kinda like a rat and a 250 combined. Two of my all time fav circuits.
A bit late on this, but the blend on the MBD is not your regular clean blend. It is a really cool feature on the pedal. To me, the blend on the MBD is perfect for bass and it really does "blend" your clean with the dirty extremely well. You didn't see a lot of filtered blends on dirt pedals before the MBD came onto the scene. There was some, but nowadays, it seems almost normal and not so far and few in between as they used to be. The market and builders really caught on to this over the last 7 to 8 years. Seems to me anyway.
And after having and selling a few Damnation pedals over the years, starting with a Bypass Looper, then an MBD, then the Dirt Fixer, I again own an old school Bypass Looper.
I run my Reiner Gasoline into my JohnK Peavey Centurion preamp in the loop, with the bass turned down on the Centurion. Best bass tone I have had, ever. I will have an Origin DCX after all of them for the final polish next week, but honestly my tone hasn't ever been better.
That filtered blend really is magic.
I really want a DCX too. It seems right up my alley. maybe not the dirt side so much (even though I think I'd dig it regardless) but the clean side sounds friggen amazing.
I ended up buying a used MBD 2. i got what I thought was a pretty good deal, $140 shipped. I went with the 2 due to the ability to toggle the shift switch. I find both positions on the switch useful. I really didn't need the separate boost switch of the 3 as I'm using the pedal for medium to high gain so the switch is always on. It's a great pedal, nice and thick with plenty of bottom. Although I'm not using it for lower gain settings, it does those quite well also.
As for the blend, I don't really use it. I have it set at about 8:00. I have enough low end even without it enabled. Depth is also at about 8:00.

This made me track down a deal on a bloop, since I had never tried one...
You're right, even vs the non-contoured blend setting on the dirt fixer, there's a little something something going on.
Sounds awesome with a longsword running into the fuzzrocious bongripper!
I still like using my Bloop! Currently use it as the fun switch on my board. Got a Behringer brassmaster fuzz going into a vintage phaser in the loop.
Woah, do I need to try running chorus, flanger, and trem in the bloop?
