Damnation Audio Fan/Appreciation Thread

I've been spring cleaning, going through lots of olds boxes of gear and forgot I had this

An MBD-1 prototype that Jeff sent me and ended up I think trading me for making demo recordings, back in 2016. My old emails just say "Damnation Audio MOSFET Bass Distortion"

This made me track down a deal on a bloop, since I had never tried one...

You're right, even vs the non-contoured blend setting on the dirt fixer, there's a little something something going on.

Sounds awesome with a longsword running into the fuzzrocious bongripper!
Awesome, man!
Jeff made something great there. I mean his MBD-1 is fantastic too, but I just like really bright and abrasive bass. I'm glad I am able to use his stuff again in a different way to get me there.

Bass guy who makes kickass analog gear. What's not to like?

btw if you ever get tired of that gasoline or find another, lemme know

Some day I'll have to try a spite box and/or curmudgeon, there have been no misses so far in my book

For some reason I'm picturing a pedal that's like an amalgam of the fuzzrocious bongripper and the Lusithand Ground & pound, but from damnation and further perfected... a blend that has comp on the low end, some choice eq (like the prototype MBD that was just posted, lifting the dirt fixer spots, or tilt eq), and a parallel dirt that goes from tweakable transparent clank/stick out in the mix tone w low end to all out insanity via a gated boost (bongripper is rat/cat tail + demon od w a boost) that keeps the levels around unity despite more saturation

That'd be sweet and about all I need

I tried to kick it off my amp since I got it in 2020.
The closest pedal ironically has been the VMT. I think if I didn't have it, a VMT with a sweepable eq in front of it would sound great too. But I do love that pedal.

I have a Ground and Pound that I am selling on another website - I wound up only using it for the compressor only then decided I had no use for it - I never got on with the Rat drive as it sounds too cardboard-ish to me.

I wish Reiner made the Gasoline again, and perhaps in a smaller case. Or he gave the schematic to someone else. That pedal deserves to be built still!

I did a scary thing with mine and had to make it match my @johnk_10 Centurion preamp's led!
Green and Blue and all the colors in between is my ocd thing I guess.

That Origin DCX is there at the end for the final touch, but the Gasoline/Centurion in the BLOOP is what my sound is. And no, the DCX didn't come close to kicking the Gasoline either:)

Always wanted to meet up with Reiner but he lives on the other side of the state if I remember correctly.

Only TBer whose couch I've slept on!
I feel honored for the exclusive distinction. I think that was the last live show I went to actually, it was a good one. I just found the Asthma Castle CD while cleaning out my car (it was just that and NoMeansNo's Wrong). My youngest used to regularly request it while driving, I'll give it a spin when I pick up my kids later.

Bloop in the classifieds.

Just listed a bass parallel drive and power distorter, if anyone's interested...

We're getting our windows replaced, so I unfortunately have to sell some stuff to fund that.

I had listed an MBD (or is it MBD3?) for sale a little while back because I thought that, while it sounded okay at home, the eq adjustments weren't quite what I was hearing in my head as the "ideal" sound. However, I finally got a chance to use it within a band context for the first time last night, and I must say this thing is one of the best sounding drives I've had the pleasure to use on bass. What sounded a bit too assertive or sharp to my liking at home sat beautifully in the mix! And the depth knob and boost are 👨‍🍳💋 Needless to say, it's staying on the board.
