Damnation Audio Fan/Appreciation Thread

No, the boost in the MBD does not operate independently.
I think you've missed my point :) I understand the MBD's boost requires the MBD to be engaged. I was stating why a dirty or heavily colored boost would bring more to the table than an independent clean boost.

If you read the full sentence I wrote, rather than the eleven-word excerpt you quote, I not only contrast a dirty or heavily colored boost with the MBD's boost, but also acknowledge this only works for stacking into the BPD (Boost→MBD→BPD). We are in agreement that this would not allow users to stack boost→BPD→MBD. Hence, my suggestion of an independent dirty boost built for this demo board.

Thanks for the condescension.
I don't get enough of it on this site.

Well, if you want to show how well they stack then I think a Spite Box, BIG, or Retro Bass Distortion in front would be a good idea. In my experience, most bassists are more interested in how dirt stacks with dirt than how it stacks with modulation or time-based effects. I'm not saying this is a good thing--I myself always have a phaser on my boards--but it is a reality.

But since you mention phaser, reverb, and boost (which of course the BIG brings to the table), I recommend:
  • Phaser: Chase Bliss Wombtone Billy Strings signature analog phaser: it sounds better than all other phasers I've tried
  • Reverb: Iron Ether Nimbus SE or Broughton Audio Resound V2: both are compact, good sounding reverbs on bass (if you want to go wild, there's always the Chase Bliss CXM 1978 lol)
  • Boost: I'm assuming you want a dirty or heavily colored boost since you already have a nice clean boost in the MBD which you could always stack into the BPD. There are plenty of options out there, but this feels like something that could be fun and easy to build: a special, one-off Damnation Audio dirty boost unique to in-person demos.

I would also add Envelope Filter to the list of "other than dirt" units to include.

By their nature Envelopes react wildly differently depending on the dirt they're fed.

In my experience the MBD2, MBD, and Spite Box each change the way an Envelope triggers/sustains/closes in different ways and as such get stacked differently depending on the sound I'm looking to achieve.

I suggest including an Iron Ether Xerograph Deluxe.

Thanks for the condescension.

Woah. That was not my intention at all :( I'm sorry it came across that way. I was aiming for firm clarity (hence the underlined "full") because it genuinely seemed to me that my words were taken out of context, but also made sure to point out that we are actually in agreement, attempted to de-escalate by writing "I think" instead of asserting "You've missed the point," and opened my reply with a smiley face to establish a positive tone. Clearly I was unsuccessful in conveying that tone and I apologize for that. I never want anyone to feel belittled or condescended and I'm so sorry my reply read that way. I can certainly understand how you "only quoted" what you feel was relevant, but I hope you can also understand how I feel that the material you omitted provides context central to the meaning of quote in question, meaning which is in fact antipodal to how the quote reads in isolation :)

Thanks for the clarification.

A smorgasbord of Damnationry this morning. I forgot about the Curmudgeon. It kills with the loop!

The whole album’s up via this blog! MBD(3) on the whole album, other than the last song, Who Asked You. That's my cranked MBD-1. So Damnation Audio on the whole thing.
