Danelectro Coral Deluxe Bass project

Hah! Sorry, I just saw this... after working on the CDB, I sourced some swirly translucent material at a place here in SF called Tap Plastic. The have big roles of clear, red, blue and I think green. I've used it on my custom builds, layered under a clear lucite pg. (silver mylar/clear swirl material/clear lucite pg) It's not exactly the same - but it's similar.

I perform an annual google-search (now AI-enhanced) which essentially asks the same question...which is "Any information whatsoever on this awesome f$%@ing bass???" Not entirely sure what qualifies as "new information/breaking news" when talking about the history of instrument manufactures, but...this just in?

I'm assuming this is an amazing vintage Danelectro resource.

I've never actually looked at it before but it seems pretty thorough consider it actually references the Coral Deluxe Bass!
It's got it's own picture and everything.

That's awesome! Thanks for posting! :thumbsup: There seem to be a couple questionable listings; they list a Danelectro Dane as being from the late '60s, but that's when Coral bought Dano and they introduced the Coral Deluxe Bass which was a mostly RI of the early '60s Dano Dane. They also called a Wasp a Dane. Wasp was a short-scale Vinnie Bell designed bass. The Dane was 34" scale as was the Coral Deluxe Bass.

It never would’ve occurred to me in a million years that it was anything other than a long scale bass - that’s hilarious.

The headstock seems enormous and must be playing tricks on my eyes.

The hs is bigger than a standard Fender hs. Not as huge as a couple other basses though...

I agree - an odd duck but well worth it for how they sound. (I love how they look/play also) I got the OHSC with my '68 Coral Deluxe Bass but both Hornets were bought 'case-less'. They (just) fit in my MONO gig-bag, so until I find an OHSC...

Nice - with bridge cover also! :thumbsup: Do you have the OHSC? The Coral Deluxe Bass is basically a RI of the Dano Dane with the exception of the hs. The CDB has a very unique graphted-on rosewood set-back hs.

Mine's in good condition. I had to leave it outside in the sun to get a musty smell out of the interior - but it's all good now. I too am always looking for ones for my Hornets. And also looking for a Dane - :)
