Danelectro Owners Club

Dear All Dano-Club-Members,

Here is my Danelectro Longhorn Bass. I justclove this Bass. The sound of the pickups, the neck, it seems to be very nice and playable.

Hi Dano owners, let's talk strings and tuners.

I have a 63ri baritone that I've converted to a Bass Six with LaBella Hellcat strings. They're great, but LaBella no longer makes them and only makes the longer Fender Bass VI strings now. The big problem here is the E string, where you need to remove the wrap down to the core so it fits into the tuner hole.

I'm considering reaming the headstock to accept actual bass tuners, which will allow me to use any strings made for Fender Bass VI.

Do we think this is a good idea?
What tuners would you use?
I found these and might do it:

I converted a Longhorn (4-string) bass to bass-6. First I used the D'addario Jerry Jones bass-6 set (XL155 might be the set number?), But the low strings were too light. So I used three low strings from a D'addario Chrome flats set (ECB81s), and the three high strings from the Jerry Jones set. I couldn't use the G string from the flatwound set because it was cut too short: these flats had been on the Longhorn before I converted it from 4 to 6.

So, if I actually played this bass-6 a lot, I'd start with a new set of short-scale bass strings, and use the B and high-E I have. You could use the two high strings from the set you already have.

But it's a way to avoid drilling, if you want to avoid that.

If you're willing to drill (if the main shafts are bigger), then those machines are good, as long as the tuner keys aren't too big.

Centers of my tuners ended up about 1-5/16" apart, center to center, but you probably already figured that out because your existing tuners are probably about 2⅝" apart, like mine

Those are among my faves - Gotoh makes quality tuners.

I dropped these in as replacements…same look, MUCH better

Being Hollywood and wanting an over-the-top rockin' Jed (check out his metallic get-up!) - someone 'provided' a crazy-looking guitar with two necks! (can you say Dano?) :laugh: :bassist:
