Looking at the Sperzel website, they require 11mm holes, same as the pictured Gotoh tuners. Given that, I'll stick with the Gotohs if I need to change.

I have never replaced the strings on a short horn Dano before. I plan on going from low tension tapes to the higher tension EBCFs (hopefully, without snapping the E string), anyone have a procedure on best practices? Since I can't have the bass strung while adjusting the truss rod, seems like there will be a bit of trial and error.

Personally, I've never used a worse tuner than Sperzels (had them on a Carvin), and hate locking tuners. I'd consider another non-locking option if you have one.

I'm down to just one Dano now....my 59DC short scale in Vintage Cream.
Really wanted to like the long scale 59DC, but the two I owned (black and copper burst) were some of the worst sounding instruments I've ever owned / played.
It's a shame, as I find the tuxedo black to be drop dead gorgeous...

I played the Longhorn the second time live. It was a blast. Love the feel of the neck and the sound throught my old Peavey head with an EHX Ram's Head Fuzz.

I'll try a simpler question this time. Since the truss rod is on the butt end of the neck (short horn, long scale), which way is loosening or tightening the TR? Normally, with the TR at the tuning end of the neck you turn the nut clockwise to tighten. Is it the same or flipped?

Not a TR nut. Lock nut on an lathe etc. something that spins clockwise and could torque the nut counter.

Or like what adjusted a Burns of London, and later Gretsch neck - sorta like a tuner mechanism buried in the neck heal.

A special tool was needed to turn it. I can't recall which direction it needed to turn to tighten/loosen.

I restored a '63 Vista Sonic medium-scale bass and had to address the mangled tr gear shaft.

Neck is screwed into body and an engraving material 'neck plate' covers the screws. The original was missing and after finding the serial # in the neck pocket, the son of the guy (Edward Cross) who made them for Burns in the early '60s made this one. Pretty special really - talk about legacy! That would be like Leo Fenders son having something to do with Fender today.

I bought a set of Rotosound RS66S Swing Bass Strings.

They don't fit in the tuners. Although they are 90-40.

Does anyone have any other suggestions?

Huh.

I've used RS77S flats, and they fit fine. It surprises me if RS66S didn't work.
