It's sounding great. Nice and lively, like a good Dano. The sound seems to be quite balanced and even. The knobs are cheap junk. The bridge saddle doesn't look like it can go quite far enough back, to get the intonation right. I'm about to investigate that.

I compared it to one of my Precisions, with a maple neck and ash body and it sounded a little dull and flat after playing the Longhorn. Compared to the Longhorn, my Steinberger L2 sounds more polite and focused. This will hold it's own alongside any of them, while being unique. Looking forward to playing it in a band context in a couple of days.

Is the blackburst one with the fully adjustable bridge? I don't think I've seen one of those with the wooden saddle.

Nice!! That looks nicer than the chinese reissues! Keep us posted on how it sounds. I just found a blackburst Korean longhorn. It should be here no later than Monday. Can't wait!
It does look better than the Chinese reissues, but I don't care...I'm keeping my Chinese reissue. Somehow or another I got a really badass Chinese reissue, and since it was less than $200 new, it's a no brainer for me.

I haven't heard many complaints about the chinese reissues. it just seems everyone thinks the korean ones are better. As far as the bridge its a rosewood same as yours. It was impossible to get the intonation perfect on the JJ Longhorn I had. I called Jerry Jones one day and ordered a new rosewood saddle and redrilled the mounting hole so I could slide it back a bit and that helped get it close to perfect. Good luck!

The screw holding the saddle was too tight, so the saddle wouldn't move back past half way. My intonation is only out by a few cents now. I was considering filing a tiny bit off the front of the bridge saddle to get it further back. Also considering filling in the existing hole and drilling one closer to the front. It's pretty close now, so I'm not too worried though.

The reports on the Chinese ones has been mixed hasn't it. The majority of people say they're fine, but then you read the odd person saying they're complete rubbish. Don't know if the quality was inconsistent or it's just people expecting too much or hating them because of where they're made?

So I got my Longhorn today. I love the feel of the bass but my problem is the obscenely loud buzzing that the bass makes. The only way I can get rid of it is by turning the tone controls to the mud position! Anybody else experience this, and if so did you find a way to correct it? I see their is no foil in the cavity so I was wondering if that would help. If I don't resolve the issue The bass is going back. I can't deal with the loud buzzing! I even moved my amp to a different room and that didn't help. My Jack Casady has no problem with buzzing. Any ideas?

No idea, could be a loose ground wire or pot issue. My longhorn is China made and is very quiet.

Tell us more about the problem. Does it sound metallic, like buzzing from the strings rattling against the frets? Or is it more of an electronic sound, like a circuit buzzing/hum?

Its definitely electronic like a bad ground or strong single coil buzz. The amp is a fender rumble 100 but has no ground lift. My Jack casady does not make noise through the same amp though. I moved the amp to a different part of the house and it didn't make much difference. Sometimes I can find a position where most of the buzzing goes away. I plugged it into a tascam bt 1 with headphones and it stilled buzzed. I ordered a Carvin mb1515 amp today so when it arrives I can try it out in that. i have a 30 day return policy if it doesn't work out. I don't want to start messing around with it too much and mess it up more then have a problem returning it.

It depends on your comfort level for this sort of thing, but Danos are pretty simple inside. You could pull off the plastic plate and just wiggle everything gently. If one of the leads seems loose, that's probably your culprit. Slap some solder on it and your issue may go away. Again... it all depends on your comfort level. It's a no brainer for me, but I realize this sort of thing is daunting for others.

In any case, it sounds like you might want to take advantage of that warranty. You could ask them to send you another one (provided they have another in stock). If the second bass does not have the issue, you know it was just a fluke.

Definitely sounds like an earthing issue. Does the buzz go away when you turn both volumes controls down? If yes, is there the same amount of hum from both pickups?

Mine is as noisy as a Jazz Bass. Quiet when both pickups are on evenly (humbucking) and varying amounts of single coil noise with one pickup, depending on how close you are to transformers in your amp or other gear.

I can no longer claim ownership, at least not for over 40 years, but my first bass was a Silvertone labled black Sharkfin with white binding. Then it was considered almost a joke and no one wanted one. But it was my very first bass and I was proud of it.

I wish I still had it. I think my Dad paid $35 for it used and just recently I saw one of around that same vintage advertised for sale for $990. If we'd have only known, LOL.

I got my Chinese Dano for $225.00 new and its awesome. Yeah it feels a little cheap but all the Dano's except the vintage ones feel a little plastic to me. In a way I dig it.

I bought this as cheap bass with the cool retro vibe almost as a goofy show piece as I'd play it but it has become a serious player and a dream to hang around my neck all night.

I also dig the clear pickguard that has a pic of my #1 fan and person in my life...my 8yr old Daughter :D

Ok so I still have the Dano but I noticed something strange. The next morning I plugged it in and the buzzing was gone. Was like that all day until after about 4 pm, then the buzzing starts again! Same thing the next day! Its not the lights because I have them on anytime I play. Maybe there is more power consumption during the evening or something! I don't know, I have never experienced this before! Any ideas? I will probably keep it. I'm really enjoy the scale and the sound of the bass. i like it even better than the JJ L onghorns I used to own.
