In the late 1960s, I exchanged a bass that I did not get on with for a Danelectro Longhorn bass, with a 5th string added in a conversion by a London luthier. It was tuned to B or C above the open G string. That bass served me well, had slick action and a better sound than expected and went on several tours, countless one-night gigs, a dozen residencies, deps and sessions as well. I stupidly exchanged it for a so called superior brand in Stuttgart, whilst working U.S. Army bases in W. Germany during Vietnam war. After that I bought a Rickenbacker 4001 stereo bass and built Tonehenge stereo rig. In later years I replaced the absent Longhorn with another which I work on when I feel it is relevant to the job. Besides the Longhorn, I have a Dano U2 which was going at half-price but I would have preferred a U3. The other Dano is a newish 12 string. In addition I have accumulated about 20 Dano foot pedals.
