I anchor on the neck pickup too but never noticed any vibration issues. I'd add a thumb rest to mine but I'm unsure if there's anything under there to hold the screws.

I think the best solution is install a thumb rest - never heard of that before because most people don't anchor on them since they're so rounded and low to the body at the ends.
That's rather unusual.I saw this on Facebook and had to share . I would have bought this in a second .
Bumping this thread. I sold my '63ri shorty and still have my '63ri baritone. I'd like to convert the baritone to a six string bass. Does anyone have suggestions for tuning pegs? The guitar tuners on this barely accommodate the 13-72 set I use. Would probably go for the Ernie Ball 20-90 set.
Thanks!
Look for a D'addario XL155 short-scale 6-string bass set. They're designed for 30" scale and (small-hole) guitar tuners. Gauges are 24-34-44-56-72-84. You might have to widen the nut slots a hair and tweak the truss rod, but no major surgery should be needed.
Thanks for the reply. Are they a balanced set? Or are they like D'Addario's regular bass string offerings and the high strings are much tighter than the low strings?
I don't know. I think usually D'addario usually labels their balanced sets add "balanced", do probably not.
D'addario had string tensions on Yvette website. You could probably put together a short scale balanced set from individual strings, from juststrings or some place.
I have the Ernie Ball 13-72 baritone set on the guitar now, and I like it a lot. Much better balanced than D'Addario. Time to call ol' EB.
EDIT: EB says it depends on the diameter of the tuner, and I should take that measurement and get back to them.
You might be able to use the same EB balanced set you use now, and add a single lower string of the right gauge/tension.
This would probably be around .085-.090, I guess. Do they make a short-scale bass string of that gauge? Maybe not. but you might be able to get a .085 or .090 long-scale string through the tuner hole without fuss.
A long-scale .100 string almost fit through the hole on the E tuner on my 56 bass. I drilled the hole out a hair and it fit. The .085 A-string fit without drilling. I didn't happen to have a short-scale set lying around that day.
So to answer your question in full, the EB 20-90 set is the short scale bass version. However, I received this email from Ernie Ball:
The 90 in this set has a 37" taper which is nearly the full length of the string. However, we do make another 90 (P11090) which has a 33.25" taper. You may want to consider building a set using singles.
So the answer is still the same. Build a set using singles.
D'addario Chrome flats (ECB81 - 34" set). I've been thinking of putting a short-scale set on it, but flats last forever, and the outer windings haven't unwound as conventional wisdom predicted.
YMMV

I like roundwounds, what can I say.
I ordered the strings off the EB website. But they're out of stock, so I'll probably get them in June or something. Once it finally arrives, if it fits, i'll order a new nut so I can keep the old one for baritone.
I meant To say that a long-scale 85 might fit through the hole, if you want to give it a shot before the ideal set arrives.
