Dario Deidda!

I think he found it in Italy some 5 or 6 years ago. It's '66 Jazz, if I'm not mistaken. However, his main bass these days is a short scale hollow body Fender Coronado from the late 60's. I don't dig it as much as the '66 Jazz, but hey, he loves it!

so anybody know if he used his 66 jazz on the "3 from the ghetto" record? or was that even his squier?
I don't know what bass he used on that album. I know he hits the high E on the G string towards the end of his solo on Tangario (around 2:31) so he had 22 frets for that particular solo.
He used his 20-fret Squier Jazz Bass on the album. He just uses false harmonics on the spot (a la Jaco, like on "Birdland") to play notes in the higher register. Pretty mind blowing.

btw : Dario moved to hollowbodies Fender Coronado bass or
Eko Barracuda bass cos for jazz he thought that this kind of tone with less
sustain fits better. He still use his lightweight good jazz 66 but rarely
in straight ahead jazz situations where the great sustain is not easy to manage ;-)

Since my last post here quite a while ago I've been listening to Dario a lot , and he's become even more of a favorite as his overall musicality never ceases to amaze me. A truly special musician.

Up for an amazing player that deserves a lot more recognition!!
I had the chance of going to a masterclass he was giving this weekend, and even got the honor to play a song with him, what an incredible musician!! And he's a really nice guy too..
Do you guys know of some albums on which he plays ? I've been searching for a while but didn't find a lot of stuff, for now I have his "3 from the ghetto" cd (which is amazing) and an album by belgian drummer "Mimi Verderame", "flying zone".

A trio album featuring Dario has recently been released. On this album, he uses a fretless acoustic bass guitar that someone built for him recently, but that unfortunately he has already gotten rid of (which is crazy, because it truly sounds amazing, but supposedly it was a bitch to play). This record is mostly made up of standards, and the solos are unbelievable. Check it out at the link below:

Is the bass you are talking about made a luthier named "Marco" by any chance ? When he came to give his masterclass he had brought a kind of acoustic bass/upright hybrid, he didn't talk about it but I saw the name "Marco" written on it, and know he was going to use it for a concert later that day. It sounded pretty amazing.
