Darkglass Anagram Multi FX Announced

It's weird but I hate empty spaces on a pedalboard. Maybe a midi controller in pedal format? What did you add to the anagram?

Which pedal do you use to be able to turn the bank/presets?
Page Turner is for iPad, and only really use it to advance songs on my setlist, and don’t really need it so may not use it going forward.

I’m hoping I can get away with just the buttons on the Anagram, but mine will not arrive until the first week of June so I can’t test out the patches that I’ll need and how it’ll work live until then. I also have three DG midi pedal just in case I can’t get away with the 3 switches, so fingers crossed 🤞 😃

Mine just came a few hours ago- I’m coming from a Helix LT and am extremely impressed. There were a few things I was focused on:

Pitch shifting- only went 1.5 steps down, but tracked perfectly and zero warble.

DSP- more than I’ll probably ever need. Didn’t like having to essentially give poly pitch/capo its own path in the helix

Tuner- pretty quick and love being able to use it/leave it on with the option to mute

UI- awesome and makes the Helix feel archaic. Initial updating took like a minute, and NAM loading was super simple.

Tones & presets- ok to great. Definitely some I’ll never use and the Helix obviously has a lot more options, but hopefully the gap closes in time.

Other than wishing it had a power button, I think Darkglass pretty much hit it out of the park. Hopefully they continue to develop and support it.

I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around the design decision of not having an on/off switch.

Does anyone have any insight? Any pros I can't think of?

Honestly I have no idea how to go about designing such a intricate and powerful unit. It seems like it covers just about anything a gear head would like/need. So I'm not dissing them just not sure why they decided not to have an on/off switch. Genuinely perplexed.

It does seem odd at first but then you just end up treating it like any other pedal and unplug it after you're done. I guess we're just used to multi effects these days having an on/off switch. Not a big deal after a couple of times using it, you just get used to it.

Just throwing out a guess. It’s designed in a pedal format. Very very few pedals have a power switch so this keeps the design language consistent, particularly for pedal boards with other pedals in use.

A counter argument might be that if it’s designed to replace all your pedals then the first argument is moot. And in this case, as a standalone unit, it would be nice to have a power off option. I can see this being particularly useful when using it on your desk or somewhere where it stays semi-permanently, but not terribly useful for hauling to practices or at the gig.

My Quad Cortex has a power switch. The only time I’ve ever used it is when it sits on my desk at home. Otherwise, never had a need to touch it.

In the desk scenario, I do wonder if the Standby mode would be drawing much power if it’s sitting there unused for days on end. Here, I would prefer a power off option because I don’t like dangling cables on my desk (I’m a neat freak), but a quick unplug and tucking away of the cable is not too big of a deal

Your guess sounds reasonable. None of my pedals have an on/off switch so looking at it from that angle makes sense.

It does seem like a pita to plug and unplug after every use at home though.

As long as unplugging and plugging it back in doesn't have any unintended consequences than it doesn't matter. It'll be interesting to see if there are any issues in the near future.

Would this switch work? I use something similar on my BeatBuddy pedal.

um, well in fact, pedals do have power switches ... not dedicated rocker switches but all my pedals can be turned off with a footswitch and I don't have to unplug them to do that. My Noble has a dedicated power switch as well.

Now, it's not a big deal to me at all, but I just wanted to point that out.

I get what you mean, and it is true that we turn them on and off via footswitches. But I think (or maybe it's just me) that we don't consider them powered off unless we unplug the power supply. I've often unplugged the power supply on my pedalboard without turning off pedals via the footswitch beforehand and so I consider that powering them off. I think pressing an actual designated power button as seen on most multi effects on or off has a different effect mentally than considering a footswitch as a power button.

Or maybe I'm just talking waffle 🙃

Sorry if I've missed this- but has anyone successfully used the return as a stereo aux input, which if I'm reading the manual correctly should be possible? I've put the return block in, but I'm only getting left channel stereo. I'm running a stereo 1/8" out from my MacBook through a stereo 1/8" to 1/4" adapter and into the return, and it could very well be something with my cabling but I want to rule out that I'm missing something in the configuration?
