Darkglass Anagram Multi FX Announced

I get what you mean, and it is true that we turn them on and off via footswitches. But I think (or maybe it's just me) that we don't consider them powered off unless we unplug the power supply. I've often unplugged the power supply on my pedalboard without turning off pedals via the footswitch beforehand and so I consider that powering them off. I think pressing an actual designated power button as seen on most multi effects on or off has a different effect mentally than considering a footswitch as a power button.

Or maybe I'm just talking waffle 🙃
yeah, it does not mean that much to me at all, particularly if the Anagram fills a lot of tone, FX and routing needs.

The only pedal I have that only turns off when unplugged is the Mooer Drummer X2. It's taken me a bit to get used to that to tell the truth, and if you've ever seen that pedal running, its like Broadway neon signage ... it lights up like crazy! and is actually kind of distracting TBH

but that, of course, has nothing at all to do with the Anagram

After having a first batch copy of the device at home without a chance to do more than light bedroom noodling (fret hand injury + stitches, drummer playing some travel dates with his other band, Mother's Day), I've finally had a chance to get it out to a long stint of rehearsal with the full band and IEM rig.

Honestly? I was having a small crisis of confidence in the purchase up this point, and I wasn't intending to take the new Anagram board (posted earlier in the thread) but I had stripped down my main board to change out power supplies and a few pedals leaving a roughly 2m diameter explosion of power and patch cables scattered across the floor. I was also waiting for another roll of dual lock to arrive, and Amazon showed up in just about almost but definitely not enough time to rebuild, test, pack up, and get down the road. Anagram board it was then.

I really liked having the small board in tow tonight. One of the first things I did was find a way to have my guitarist turn on the power at the board when I plugged it in, just so he could see how fast it booted compared to his QC. What can I say? I'm a simple man, and there were an acceptable amount of appreciative nods all around. Crisis lessening.

We got into playing, and it was pretty easy to start building and tweaking the chain as things progressed. Would love to see better visual feedback on the compressors as well as the individual pedals as they're being tweaked, but it was survivable. Honestly... seeing the IO levels on the left and right side of each pedal in the signal chain view would be amazing, but I digress. Ran into a bug when deleting a pedal that is part of macro in stomp mode, but had figured out a workaround using binding mode to clear things out and wasn't completely derailed.

As for the sound? It got better and better as I was able to dial things in between the room and the IEMs over the course of the session. At some point during the second hour or so I didn't need to mess with things much at all. 1/4" out feeding a SVT + 810 in the room and an XLR with the Leo amp and an Orange 115 + D112 hit the marks quite nicely, and the last hour just settled into playing for the love of it.

I probably could live with the 3 button setup, but I'm really looking forward to MIDI being implemented and getting a few more switches / expression pedals in play. As for the latter, I run 4CM when I can and tying up the return to use an insert cable with the send is a bit of a faff for me. I really do like how easy it is to bind the expression pedal when you are using that socket, so I hope something similar can be worked out over MIDI. Also looking forward to some improvement on the routing UI - it still feels a little constrained.

All in all, I'm back to being quite happy with the Anagram. I don't think it would have been possible to do as much tweaking with the HX Effects as quickly as with the Anagram, and I'm quite familiar with the HXFX. Given this, I'd feel comfortable walking into a room more or less cold and building something useful as I went (and without taking too much time).

I also realized that my relationship and opinions regarding gain / dirts is shifting again, and no amount of my capriciousness has phased the Anagram, yet, so that counts for quite a bit. :D

I’ve been able to play 3 gigs using the Anagram only.
Everything went well, but my patches are quite simple.
Basically: Comp > Harmonic Booster > Noble > Mesa 2x15 cab.

However, one sensitive point for me:
If you manipulate the Anagram on stage, it’s very easy to accidentally change the tuning frequency on stage using the first knob.
(I don’t know why, but during soundcheck I went from 440Hz to 443Hz.)

One interesting option could be to make it mandatory to press the button before being able to change the Tuner frequency.

😳😳😳😳😳

That really needs to be fixed.

I’ve had this happen at home and can confirm it is easy to do and miss. Needs a “push to unlock, obviously indicate it has been changed, push to lock” style sequence. It is nice to be able to change under other non-stage circumstances though. :D

Isn't that locked in "lock-mode" (FS 1+3)? I gotta go check...
Quoting myself. What does that say about my life...

I just checked: If you are in "lock mode" and press FS 1 to access the tuner or FS 2 for the looper, "lock mode" is automatically disabled. That seems impractical to me. If you guys from Darkglass read along, that might be an easy fix to set "lock mode" global to disable the knobs in the tuner/tap tempo and looper screen when "lock mode" is activated.

Sorry if I've missed this- but has anyone successfully used the return as a stereo aux input, which if I'm reading the manual correctly should be possible? I've put the return block in, but I'm only getting left channel stereo. I'm running a stereo 1/8" out from my MacBook through a stereo 1/8" to 1/4" adapter and into the return, and it could very well be something with my cabling but I want to rule out that I'm missing something in the configuration?

Do you have Headphones (and Adapter) to try the cable?
I don´t have the Anagram with me right now, but I think there was an option for Mono / Stereo in the Settings

Thanks for this! We will implement it

And what about the effects?
Well... I mean the Helix ones are OK. But the drives aren't amazing. The NAM ones are. You can't do mudulation or reverb with NAM. but I'd be surprised if those were wildly better in Helix than Anagram.

Plus amazing amps and drives... Plus a few mod pedals... Better than Helix IMO.

FTR I've used Helix and NAM professionally for a long time now. Helix for years and years. NAM for over a year, including on an entire album over just finished. Helix didn't get a look in on the album.

I’m not in front of my anagram right now and I won’t be for a couple of days due to travel, but after your comment I’ve done some more reading and you’re right- I somehow missed the entire “Device Settings” menu. Will try it when I get back. Thanks!
