Darkglass Anagram Multi FX Announced

I doubt the moderators can technically merge the content of 2 threads (I'm a web designer pro).
They've done it in the past across multiple threads. I don't recall if that was on the current forum platform or the previous one, but at one point in time it was definitely possible. I've also seen this happen over at Gearspace.

If folks are fine with this one taking on the "club stuff" I can just post numbers here instead and ask that the other one be deleted or archived - I had initially hoped to not clutter this one with fluff, but don't have any real religion around it.
Yeah, the tax is just too high to manage bifurcated threads on the exact same topic just to maintain a list of numbers.

Many of the same comments/questions get asked in both threads. It would just be simpler to have it here all in one. IMHO

I spoke with my Sweetwater rep earlier today and he said mine should ship out next week. Fingers crossed.
hope that goes as you expect. After I saw the Anagram on Sweetwater listed as shipping in June, I went ahead and pulled the trigger.
I was contacted this morning by my SW rep who said it would now be July before mine would ship (and no idea when in July, so it could be the last day of July). Geez

Anagram as a standalone NAM capture device.
Making this capability more broadly available for the average thumper is a solid move. It is available on the QC, but benefits from being a class leading feature in the bass vertical, and Marco addresses the strategy of positioning. Meaning... not only will we will be drowning in RAT captures before we know it, they'll sound great on guitar too! (Which I also do genuinely mean and celebrate).

Marketplace
Content curation is King. Tone3000 is great, but still is a bit of a faff to use. Take the premise, give it "App Store" features that enables community curation and a platform for third parties to monetize their products, and boom... Steve Jobs is your uncle. If Darkglass were a publicly traded company, this is the point where I would buy stock.
Thanks for summarizing!
I may be alone in this but not sure I'm ready to lower the bar for NAM captures just yet. I really don’t want to end up drowning in dozens of versions of Rat captures. I’d rather have one solid, top-rated, proapproved version than end up with libraries like Line6, Source Audio, or Future Impact where yeah, there’s gold, but it’s buried in a ton of noise.

I'm all for bridging the gap between NAM captures and the community, but I also think if we make it too easy, we risk losing quality and focus.
To run with the app store analogy, it's not like anyone can just upload an app. If some creators want to monetize their samples, great! IMA and Janek are solid examples, but opening it up to everyone makes me a little uneasy cause i don't want to endlessly scroll through 20 colorful combinations of similar things. Gives me anxiety. There's gotta be a sweet spot

Not sure when you ordered yours, but I ordered mine at the end of May. They didn't guarantee that it would be shipping next week, but rather that they think it will be headed my way at that point. It's all down to when Darkglass gets more in their hands. I'm just keeping my fingers crossed that it arrives before some fly dates I've got coming up where I don't want to check or even carry-on my full pedalboard.

American Music Supply seems to be getting their share. I pre-ordered end of May and they got a batch, fulfilled my order (batch sold out same day) and shipped mine out around May 31. I signed up for their notification e-mail and by the time it arrived the batch was sold out. Pre-ordering may be the way to go.

warning: the following is a bit of a crabby post

I have been considering multiFX units for a little while now (year or so). I have added some actual FX (as opposed to stuff like a tube DI) pedals to my signal chain over the past 5 or so years. Filter, Distortion/OD, Octaver, and using a combination of those to get a synthy kind of effect. It's has all worked out ok for me, but I'm kind of tired of doing the multi-pedal foot dance during gigs .... hence my interest in multi-FX boxes.

I originally focused on the Quad Cortex, but was immediately attracted to the Anagram as it seemed to be maybe a bit better box and also, being from Dark Glass, it was seemingly mostly bass focused.

As I posted earlier, I did the pre-order thing at Sweetwater after reading that they would have them to be shipped in June (sometime). This morning, my ever helpful SW rep let me know that it would be July (sometime) before mine would ship. Kinda frustrating to "buy" something today and be told you might get it in 2 months. We had a little polite back and forth about the fact that it was a bit deceptive of SW to show these as shipping in June, but the actual availability for buyers today was going to be behind earlier pre-orders ... so sometime in July (no idea when). My SW rep agreed with me, but of course, he has no impact on that situation.

I'm kind of aggravated about this (could you tell ?). Did DarkGlass just not expect much market demand ? and what might be holding these things up for such open ended time frames ? This has also got me wondering how much better the Anagram might be than the much more mature Quad Cortex. From reading here on TB, I guess the bass focused content on the QC is much smaller than the Anagram, but I'm guessing there is pretty solid Filter, Octave, Distortion/OD and Synth features already live in the QC universe. And at the same time, the Anagram seems like it has not really fully matured just yet (e.g. audio interface capabilities, some MIDI functions and others are "coming" features), whereas the QC is already pretty well developed as a product ... and more importantly to me, is avail new and used in some profusion.

I'm also wondering about how long before there is a used Anagram market after all the initial unit buyers and some "tire kickers" burn out on it and dump them on the used market.

Finally, I am asking myself, why am I reacting to so much hoopla about a device that is not really revolutionary (as far as I can tell). I generally don't jump in like this, and all of this is reminding me of why that is so.

I've done fine with out an Anagram/multi-FX box so far and all this delay is definitely making me reconsider such a purchase.

Ok, I'm better now, thanks for listening. ;)

I've been around the block. I remember buying my first bass at Manny's, an NYC icon that is sorely missed. My days of going on at 10 p.m. have been traded for the 10 a.m. service at my church. At 64, I can't stay up late anymore, but I still love to play live.

So, what do I love about the Anagram? I've created presets that take me back to the days of tube monsters without the backache or risk of tube/parts failure. Each week, we play four songs at church. I've created presets to match or come close to the original rig for each song. What am I looking forward to? Paying Aguilar $100 for a NAM DB 751, paying Ampeg, and Fender for their best, not the snapshots we create.

I've not seen one Anagram for resale, though I'm not looking at the classified except to unload the gear, it has replaced. Speaking of that, I've sold enough gear to pay for the Anagram and a Fender Custom Shop P. Like me, I believe others think this is a game changer for the bass community.

I had an early order in with SW but cancelled it when it wasn't immediately filled, and luckily, I scored one with GC. I've also cancelled my order for the new GK lead sled, as I'm guessing I'll eventually be able to get that on the Anagram. I think you can tell I'm all in.

I’d hold out for the Anagram, via Sweetwater (but keep looking for other vendors)... I got one in the April batch, and then recently sold my QC. There’s enough usable features/quality tone options already built in to Anagram.

I was frequently disappointed with QC updates, which seemed to focus more on elec guitars. I’m much more inclined to believe DG will come thru with additional updates/features, but I’m already enjoying it.

Anagram is much simpler to operate (imo/e)…can focus more on playing vs configuring. The weight/footprint is much nicer with Anagram, too.

Hey kev curious your thoughts. I am more of a "DI" (capture) guy and not really an "amp/cab" (emulation) guy. How does the Anagram stack up when using just the Noble emulator and/or NAM captures of DI's rather than amp/cabs in the block chain?

Just in terms of availability, keep in mind Darkglass are actually a relatively small team who make the Anagram themselves. I'd imagine it's much more complex to make than most of their other pedals, and the Anagram is selling super fast when it is in stock.

I actually ended getting mine through Chicago Music Exchange partially out of concern of the thronging masses going to SW and swamping the order queues. I use SW for most things, but for this one I didn't. Definitely check out some other reputable sellers and you may get lucky.

You're definitely at the inflection point of the tap dancing problem and you probably couldn't have arrived at a better time. The Anagram just launched, the Helix has shown to be more than merely serviceable for bass, and there are other quality options from Fractal, BOSS, Fender, Hotone... you name it. If you're balking on a multi-FX unit, there are tons of great loop switching systems available that will let you work with the pedals you already have. Each has their own set of tradeoffs.

As for a used market... I think the time for that will come, but for now I get the sense that folks are going to hold onto theirs for the next little bit, especially as the platform matures and more features come online (e.g., MIDI, bluetooth, audio interface, NAM capture device, more effects, stronger app / editor, marketplace and third party vendor support). There is a lot of goodwill and excitement right now in the community, so it is really up to Darkglass to follow through as best they can on their promises. IMO they've been forthcoming about the scope of both the problem and scale of their team and how they value delivering a high-quality, curated experience over rushing things out half baked.

Is the device revolutionary? That's actually an interesting question. If I hadn't actually had my hands on one for a while now I would probably be on the fence as well. It is a very pretty, compact device that sounds really good. When you add up what a comparable price for individual dirt, compression, eq, filtering, modulation, effects, tuner, looper, models, sims, headphone amp, and so on, it doesn't take long for the price to amortize favorably.

Is it worth (more or less) two HX Stomps, or a Stomp and some stomp boxes? If the Stomp does everything you want, then probably not. If you're starting to supplement your Stomp with other things, then the argument shifts back to yes (IMO)... but hinges on what those things are and whether or not the Anagram can do it now, or will be able to do so in the future.

One thing that I think they've done really well is focus on landing the user experience. Some systems sound great and but are hair-pullingly frustrating to operate. Some require a ton of tweaking out of box to get sounding nice. This one starts off sounding good and just kinda gets out of your way to let you get it to where you want it.

It isn't perfect - there are some bugs and it has some quirks, but it isn't buggy or quirky (if that makes sense). But IMO it is still very good in its current basic form, and we know there is more coming.

Are you getting good classic worship board tones like the tone hammer di and perhaps bass Microsynth?

thanks. FWIW, I just checked Chicago Music Exchange and they are showing units will ship by 8/27/25. :rollno:

For the time being, I'm leaving my preorder up at Sweetwater. Still pretty frustrated though.
