Darkglass Microtubes 900 Class D Amp

Quick question for you guys...I just order a Darkglass MT 900. I know it has the 2ohm/4ohm switch on the back. I was just hoping someone could help explain how the works for me...I think I may have the idea...

I understand that in 2ohms mode into a 2ohm cab it will be 900 watts and in 4ohm mode into a 4ohm cab it will run at 900 watts.

Then if you run it in 2ohms mode into a 4ohms cab you get 500watts and 350 watts with an 8ohm cab.

So far I think I'm right?

So I my question is...if you run the amp in 4ohm mode into an 8ohm cab...what are the watts being produced?

I'm trying to decide what cab to pair my head with.

Thanks for the help!

Hi! The 2 Ohm switch simply limits the maximum power output to 900W when using a 2 Ohm load (which is why you can use for lower power output with higher impedance cabs).

Regards!

I traded my Mesa Prodigy for one of these... looking forward to it arriving tomorrow, though I don't know if I will bring it to my gig tomorrow night since I'm providing the backline. It will be paired with a Barefaced Four10, and I'm looking forward to comparing it to my Mesa D800. I've been running a Vintage Ultra into the D800 to get a little grit, and will probably try to dial up a similar tone with the M900.

I traded my SW800 for one of these, needed a bit more muscle and fits the bill well as a backup/alternative to my Super Bassman 300.

Hi guys. I finally have the funds to buy the M900 and cab combination I was after. I am still unsure of a few things though and was after some advice. I am pretty much set on pairing it with a TC electronic RS cab, more specifically I was thinking of going either the RS210 or the RS212 at first with the long term plan of adding the second RS cab to make a stack.

What I am not sure about is the technical aspects of this. Both the 210 & 212 are 400W at 8ohms so I get that running the one cab I would need to put the M900 into 2ohm mode and would get 350W at 8ohms. What I am not clear about is if I add the second cabinet later on. With two 400w 8ohm cabs in play what settings would I use on the M900?

Guys, correct me if I'm wrong:

You can run one 8 ohm cab with the amp no problem, run it with the 4 ohm switch position. The amp will give you 450 watts max. if you run it with one 8 ohm cab, so you're good to go. The 4 ohm position is the MINIMUM load. You can add another 8 ohm cab, which will result in a 4 ohms total load. Just make sure you don't turn the amp up too much, because at 4 ohms, it will give you a max. output of 900w which would blow up your speakers. The 2 ohm option allows you either to add two more 8 ohm cabinets or two 4 ohm cabinets total.

Hope this doesn't confuse you too much ;)

That is all correct. I may word the '900w which would blow up your speakers'. If you are using two 8 ohm cabs, each one will see 450 watts max. (This is all very approximate.) Whether this will blow your speakers or not depends on a ton of factors. Best to pay attention to the sounds you hear as you turn up.

"With two 400w 8ohm cabs in play what settings would I use on the M900?" standard 4ohm setting. Bear in mind the 10's are getting hit with the same wattage as the 12s, and that shouldn't be a problem in terms of can they take it (as long as you monitor it and don't play wide open volume), but may be a problem in one cab sounding louder than the other due to different efficiencies of the 10 drivers/cab versus the 12 driver/cabs

So I lucked out I feel... I had to drive 3.5 hours each way but I was able to trade my B3K for this Mesa Powerhouse 215 cab, and I get to keep the Audiokinesis cab too!

Dang, that looks wicked. What an amazing trade.

Not so much a technical answer but I run my M900 with the RS410 and it sounds excellent. You are going to love it.
