Darkglass Microtubes 900 Class D Amp

Hey guys, I just got my M900 yesterday. I'm having an issue with hiss when I turn the master higher than halfway. It's running into a brand new Ampeg 6x10. The only other things connected right now are the Darkglass Super Intelligent Footswitch, a Boss chromatic tuner, and a Boss noise suppressor. Does anyone have any ideas on how to stop this? I have a gig tomorrow, so I'm freaking out a bit. Thanks in advance!

My m900 seems super-sensitive to guitar cables. I had some older cables that would cause a hiss with the m900. (that still work perfectly with other heads, dead silent).

I switched them out for brand new cables and the hiss went away. Not even fancy cables - plain old $20 fender ones.

I think I'm going to keep my amp around for a while.. I've really been enjoying it. Works great even for my classic rock cover band with a little bit of eqing.

I was trying to track down a Darkglass bag, but it does not look like any are in stock anywhere in the US. What are people using for alternatives? I ordered a 15x15 Gator mixer bag from Amazon but it was way too large so I'm sending it back.

Has anyone removed the feet from the amp? I want to mount it to a rack shelf and I was going to use Dual-lock for the job.

Don't use that sticky back velcro mess. Get a vented rack mount and use tie wraps through the vent holes. Holds much better and secure and easier to undo.

Measure for the right length of cable ties.

The Aguilar bag is a perfect fit and higher quality than the DG bag IMO.

Here..... It fits perfectly. Based on the same specs.

Looks like I'm taking a the leap. I just snagged one of these out of the classifieds. Hoping to have it in my grubby hands shortly. I'm curious how it will stack up against my Demeter head, particularly since I've got a few pedals ahead of it. I'm only going to keep one of them. Now, I wait :)

FedEx tried to destroy my delivery, but they couldn't quite do the job. My 900 arrived yesterday. Actually, I picked it up late yesterday, and didn't plan to play it until tonight. However, the box was pretty beat, so I did a quick low-volume test to verify it worked (I got home at 11pm, and live in an apartment). It worked. I think I'm going to like this amp. Initial impressions are that the size and weight were a touch bigger than I expected them to present, despite the fact that I knew the dimensions. EQ seems pretty useful. The fan is going to be a bit loud for quiet practice playing. The tone seemed nice when paired with my MM 4H.

mate the fan is not too bad for silent practice.
I hooked it up to my xenys502 mixer via the DI out, headphones on, you don't notice it and you get to play with the engine on and along to an mp3 player which you can plug in.

Well done on getting yours

Expanded initial impressions:

Fan is a little noisy for quiet practice, solo, though not insufferable.

There's a touch of hum in there, particularly relative to the Demeter head. Higher gain settings enhance it, particularly with the Microtubes engaged, and certain EQ boosts. Duh ;)

I don't feel a need to run the comp in my signal path, which I usually do.

I don't like stacking my AO in th signal chain.

I do like my Dunwich DA120 in the chain.

It kills with my Spector Euro 5. It's pretty nice with my other basses, too :)

More impressions to follow.

You aren't the only person to report that it slays with a Spector.
