DarkStar Pick Ups

I received my Dagstars the other week, and my luthier was able to to put them in. Picked up my bass yesterday (I gave it to him on Tuesday, man he worked fast!). Anyways, these pickups are brilliant. I've never used original Bi-Sonics or Darkstars to compare them to, but Roger's Dagstars are simply amazing. They have a huge, broad tone and really bring out the nuances in my playing. Sort of a similar tonal quality to a normal Jazz and Precision, in the same area, but just clearer, with no frequencies really favored from what I can hear, and way bigger. It actually works really well in tandem with the Jazz pickup in the bridge. My luthier said the bridge pup seemed pretty wimpy and was dominated by the Dagstar, but I found it's nice to dial it in a skosh. It actually tames the Dag, lowers the output of the bass, but hits the front end of my amp less, so keeps the amp cleaner, louder.

Anways, all-in-all, could not be more happy with the pickup! Thanks Roger!

^^^

its a 64 eb0
i bought it from a guy in LA and it had been stripped to just the body/neck so i didnt feel bad about hacking it up.

hipshot bridge and tuners ( had to move the bridge post to square it up)

and the pickups are chisonic humbuckers with 2 volumes and 1 tone, passive of course:hyper:

pretty sweet huh?

I've read a few reviews of Chisonics, seems like the single coil is favored by some

I think it would be fantastic if down the road all of the new Dark Star-Hagstrom Bisonic imitators were tested on a test bed instrument the way Luknfur did in the Talkbass pickup forum

I'm still shopping around for my 69 Guild Starfire II which has had Bisonics, Alembic, and now EMG HB's installed. What is a good replacement for the HB sized slot? I could go the French Dark Star replacement, or chat with SGD and get his neo pickups, would be interested to see how the sound changes. I know he
makes pickups in the HB size, as does the new Lane Poor Legacy guy, any suggestions? I would love to mimic Edwin and put Series one alembic pickups and electronics, but that would be a challenge
