Dat bassface...

Posture and poise.

I had noticed that I was clenching my teeth when I was playing metal (6ths and fast riffs). So I decided to work on being relaxed. That ended up in me grinning like the village idiot....

Then I tried to play some Primus, so I stretched the vocal chords whilst twiddling my fingers across the ol' hunk o' furniture. That seemed to go well.

Here's to the celebration of bass face!

So, like Este Haim??

She's actually a perfectly rational looking person when she isn't playing bass:

Este actually told an interviewer that she's tired of the bass face references, and that we only say that about her because she's female.

She's of course totally incorrect.... we say that about every bassist making bass face regardless of gender, and if she was a man we'd still give her an award for best bass face, because she OWNS the stage when she plays! It's a COMPLIMENT Este, we love you, and you're a legendary bass guitarist in a great band! All good!

I can't quite remember her name, but there is one lady who gets brought up for her bass face quite often around here. As far as I know, it seems to overshadow her bass playing skills, much to her dismay.
That's Este you are thinking of probably, from my post above, and it has absolutely NOT overshadowed her bass playing skills. She's highly regarded as a bassist, and as a singer and songwriter for that matter. She and her sisters have been through a lot, including some serious gender discrimination and general a-holeness from one or two famous musicians who are obviously complete idiots but, of course, it still stung Haim I'm certain.... , and she may have misunderstood the focus on her expressions - I believe it's awesome, and she's one of my bass playing idols for the excellent playing the fact that she is visually in the forefront drawing attention to our instrument!
