Dating Co-workers....?

I've worked at the same large company for 23 years and have seen quite a lot of instances where people hook up, date, or get married. Almost all of them have ended badly and the divorces have tended to be especially rough.

I think the worst part about it for the people involved is all the talking that goes on during and after. You'll be the subject of a lot of gossip and that's never a good thing. I can point to a pretty well known example here involving a woman, her married co-worker (who's wife worked here as well), a conference room table, and the janitor who walked in on them. That was about 15 years ago and people *still* talk about it. He's long gone but she still works here. So does his ex-wife.

It depends on the people involved. Some people are mature and professional enough to not let the relationship--whether it develops or founders--affect them in the workplace, but many are not.

And a lot depends on the workplace, too; a high-stress, snakepit-type place of work would probably be worse for dating and breakup than a more laid-back, teamwork-oriented place.

In my office there are more than a few sets of married couples working here.
Most of them have been married more than a decade, and as far as things go at work, theyre fine, Ive seen no issues. My sister and her husband both work here, but dont really interact with each other, as my brother in law works in the adjacent building. In recent years there have been a few girls whom I would have considered takin out had I not been married/involved at the time.

If you work in a small office, IMO not a good situation.

I met my wife at a postal mail processing facility the size of a city block with several hundred other folks around. I only saw her three times per shift, at coffee and lunch. We could carpool, talk about the others we worked with and comiserated about our shifts.

We will hit 29 married years next January. And she lets me out to play bass. What a nice lady!

I did it, had my fun broke it off with her. She was awkward but wasn't awkward for me plus I went back to school so no biggie. If its a good time and both parties are clear on that then why the hell not.
