It is. Not a huge fan of the headstock, but knowing how litigious EBMM are I'm not surprised it's so different.

I wonder if 'Talk Drums' (or whatever they have....) did this kind of thread for Meytal Cohen.

Same could be said for 99% of the musical guests I see on, say, SNL.
Entertainment seems to be the key here. If you aren't the target audience, someone else is.
I think it’s also that Metallica has a weird and quirky groove. They sound exciting because of the way the drums play ahead of the beat, Hetfield’s rhythm guitar leads everyone, and they all rush some of the rests, but together and tight. Davie’s playing is very accurate, and he loses that thrashy feel.
If you're gonna go on stage and play a signature line maybe at least cover all the notes in it? Hell, Les Claypool played the full guitar part at least 30 years ago when he would cover the tune. Davie not even bothering to do the same just feels lame and lazy.
And there is certainly a distinction between art and entertainment - one that seems lost on many people today.
Davie is pretty good. He seems like a nice guy, but the only "youtube" bassist worth watching (in my opinion) is juliaplaysgroove. I can't be the only one who feels this way.
I heard it was awesome, and I am planning on watching it later. I love the creativity and the unconventional style of the show! Art comes in many forms!
I must admit, I follow TwoSet Violin more than Davie, but I like both artists
He was probably thinking that he could do a collaborative video with some other YouTubers in a setting that doesn't look like a bedroom.

And seriously, you're going to critique someone for not playing something the way Les Claypool plays it?
If you decide to put yourself out to millions, are a public figure, playing a very popular song that's been done before, and possibly better, be prepared for criticism good and bad and comparisons to those that have done it previously.
Agreed. I'd be interested in hearing Davie's thoughts on the performance. It's only been TB thus far.
Sorry, but I have a hard time taking any such criticism seriously when I read things like Davie didn't do it as well as Les Claypool did it. It's like people write stuff here without bothering to read what they write or even think about it. How many people on the planet can do something as well as Les Claypool does it?
Davie is not my particular cup of tea, playing wise. That said, I have watched a number of his videos, many of which have hilarious moments, and the playing usually strikes me as quite good. I wish I could play with my thumb as well as he can. In this particular video, he was playing by himself, and that has its own set of limitations. Given those limitations, he chose to play what he played in the way he played it, simultaneously providing melody and support for that melody. Much of the criticism I've been reading here seems petty and narrow-minded.
Davie is a master of the instrument, so comparing him to another master of the instrument doing the same song feels like fair game to me.
I'm glad so many people loved it and love Davie. Dude can do no wrong for some people I guess because he's so much more talented and making millions.
