I used to be subscribed to Davie years ago when all he did was play. I thought wow I get it, you can play anything and I unsubscribed. Then I watched his newer stuff and found it funny. So I subscribed again. I give him credit for getting big and then turning around and having something else to catch on and keep him afloat. It’s obvious it’s a spoof and a joke. He does try to help people get subscribers and work from his videos. Even drummers. I feel the people that don’t get it are the same ones that didn’t get the Colbert report. Or you get it and it’s just not your thing. Which is fine. At least maybe it will get younger people into actually playing instruments.

You haven't paid much attention then...
Yes, slap is his 'thing', but he's got plenty of every technique on his videos. Limited, he ain't.
I did watch a few of his videos throughout the years and he always been very into slap for everything. He has that funky slap thing very deep in him.
I find most of his videos entertaining but the one thing that really bothers me is that he STRONGLY discourages players from using a pick. I almost never play with a pick myself but some of the bass players I admire a lot use them exclusively. Bobby Vega is a beast! It is a totally valid way to express yourself on the instrument. If you want to play with a pick, don't let anyone discourage you. Just do your thing.

Wow. Pretty forceful response. I've been watching him since around 1m subs (And at one point did a response vid to one of his bass challenges (totally silly)). Not saying he isn't good. But he isn't Federico Malaman, Hadrien Feraud, or Tom Jenkinson good. And honestly, I don't care for his tone, it's kinda bland TBH. I do videos too, so maybe I'm just a bitter 46 year old man with only 55 subs on Youtube. My opinion doesn't matter. Don't worry about it. The next thing is going to be people talking about how Junior_Groovador made it on his bass playing alone...

This. By now he probably have a team of people helping him to continue to expand his channel. There is so much money that can be made youtube, even on the six zeros figure.
Playing bass is probably in the last place pf his list to do.
He does slap more than he does use other techniques, but whenever he does those FIVERR challenge videos, he always has strict rules about the mandatory inclusion of finger, slap, and tap techniques, otherwise the person is disqualified.
Effort gets less and less, income gets more and more... I'd LOVE to have a job like that.
Content that requires extensive video editing and effects takes far longer to create. A video of just someone playing the bass is FAR EASIER to product in terms of video production, compared to a video with lots of cuts and effects. The difference can be dozens of hours of additional video production.
Right, which is kind of unfortunate since many view slapping as something you do sparingly, if at all, because it's not always tastefully included. I don't have a strong opinion of him but I dislike the implication that if you don't slap on everything you're somehow not doing it right. I think it sends the wrong message to learners about what's valued as a player. If you prioritize slap, you're going to wind up in a weird place if you start looking for work in multiple genres.

I think it's just his sense of a "well-rounded" player with good range of techniques. I suppose playing with a pick is not on that list for him.
