I also own a Dean B2-5 Bromberg bass. Brian actually is a friend of mine, he played it and told me it was one of the better-setup B2-5s he'd played. He also signed the back of it for me. I guess that means mine truly IS a "Bromberg Signature Model"! :hyper::D

I have a Dean Edge 5 in my arsenal as well. It has decent tone, and the maple in the neck on mine has a really nice figure on it.

My Dean was a rescue bass. My brother bought it for me from a guy he knew who's idea of playing bass was beating on the B string with a pick as hard and fast as possible. The bass was dinged up, scratched up, and generally was not treated well at all. He beat the B string so hard he wore grooves into the pickup covers with it. The neck looked like a compound bow, and the volume pot was dead and would not adjust, stuck permanantly at about 10% volume.

He sold it to my brother for $100 because he wanted to move to mistreating some unlucky guitar.

After getting this bass, I first pulled the strings, then cleaned and polished it (a first for this bass I'm sure!). I then put new strings on it and set the truss rod and intonation. I soldered a wire across the volume pot terminals to force it to full volume until I can order a new pot. Now that the thing has been setup correctly and the electronics fixed to the point it's usable, it's really a nice sounding and playing bass...

This was my Dean rescue story. It will spend the rest of it's days with me, living a pampered and musical life, which it was unfortunately not born into...


A quick note, the electronics in this bass looked like a monkey did the soldering. A bird's nest would be better organized than the wiring in this thing. All I can hope is the idiot redid the wiring and that it didn't come from Dean looking like that.

I am also a member of the D.O.A. which is the Dean Owners Of America Club. Each year, Dean builds a custom guitar and bass for members only. They are all set neck construction (except the 2007 which is neck thru), active electronics, multi-ply full binding (body, neck and HS) and the tops and colors are NOT available to the general public.

D.O.A. Basses so far are:

2003 - Silverburst Caddy bass (only 25 produced)
2004 - Vintage Trans Cherryburst over flame maple V bass (only 25 produced)
2005 - Trans Blueburst over flame maple Z bass (only 12 produced)

2007 - Trans-Black over flame, neck through, 5 string Hardtail bass (only 15 produced)
