I noticed that. It didn't look too bad (IMO) on the bass i want (Metalman ML2A)
But, with the 2A series of basse,s they put these Godawful skull knobs on. First thing i'd do if i buy is take those things of and put new ones on. then..sand it down to bare wood and go crazy with a wicked paint scheme on it.
I'd be looking to get those putrid red "saw" inlays replaced too, just with pearl or abalone... And if that can't be done I want a new neck made!!! I'd rip off those knobs too...
There are two series of Metalman basses: the first series had single passive pickups and were dirt cheap, like $199. The second series have two active pickups and seem a little more finished; they are the ones going for around $300.
Dean makes good basses, I like fender better, but hate most squiers, personally dean is a lot cheaper so I'd say its worth it.
I have a Dean fretless Edge 5 and it plays as nice as anything out there in the $1000 range. The electronics are adequate but an upgrade would put it even further ahead in the game. It cost me next to nothing used too... 
I need to get my hands on a Edge Hammer 10X before they're completely discontinued, if they aren't already. I've always wanted a coursed 5-string at "less than Warrior" prices.

agreed. I luv my 4 string B2 Bromberg.
It was either this or a american fender jazz and I had to choose the dean because of its amazing versatility and amzing range of tones it could achieve.
i think dean are hit and miss. i love my rhapsody 8. but i dislike the metalman series. the edges are ok. i think what might make the difference is the 3-D preamp i have in my rhapsody.

i love my improv five which was made before they changed ownership. the active emgs in it might have something to do with that, but i think they might have actually been stock, but IDK because i got it used. the neck feels good to me but i could be weird cause i hate the feel of fender necks.
