Dean Club!!!

B-Mac - thank's for the few catalog pages.
And now short info about my new Dean: Yesterday the Razor arrives. As you could see in the Pictures i posted two days ago, there are missing some knobs, the strings are rusty and all was dusty and dirty.
So i disposed the rusty strings, cleaned the whole bass with bridge and fretboard, oiled the fretboard, put new DR 105 - 40 strings on and made a neck and string adjustment. Also I put some knobs on, which i have left over. The pu's work both and also the eq. After all I have a super light an well sounding instrument, which is very easy to play. After a little work I am very happy with this bass.
Have a nice sunday, Sigi
PS: The only thing i would change some day, are single coil to humbucking pu's.

@Sigi Joerg I think you should do a ‘New Bass Day’ (NBD) post for the overall TB ‘basses’ so that everyone sees this beauty.:hyper:
Just sayin’

I was showing this one off over at the Black'n'Maple Club The "Official" Black 'n' Maple Club - Part Four and B-Mac asked me to post it up over here too. 2010 Hillsboro fiver.

It was part of a deal for another bass I wanted and since it was a B'n'M I went for it. Funny thing is I don't even play fivers. Seems like a decent bass though. Might just do a set-up and flip it or trade for a 4 string. I'm pretty sure it is a 2010. Judging by the SN which begins with O 10. I was a little bit worried about it at first when I looked at it because the neck had a lot of bow in it and the action was pretty high. I took a chance on it anyways and luckily the truss rod turned easily and I was able to get the neck straightened out pretty good.

The action still needs to come down a bit and since the saddles for the B and E are already bottomed and judging by the way the neck sits in the pocket, I'd say the saddles were bottomed out like that when it shipped from the factory. I'll have to shim the neck to get the adjustment back but I think it'll be nice when I get it finished.

Also needs a good cleaning which I'll do when I pull the neck.

I just noticed that since this is the 5-er that it has the smaller logo than on mine. I like the smaller logo better. The headstock is also cut different on the treble side

I think you oughtta do a NBD too as you don’t see many 5-er Hillsboro’s

I liked the stock pickup, but I’m a tinkerer. I put in a nordstrand 3 band preamp and and the big blade pickup. It just sounds “clearer”.

I love the bass though. The action is almost flat with zero fret buzz. It plays like a $1000 bass. I bought it as soon as they were released, and I was able to meet up with Eric at NAMM 2011 and he signed the headstock first me.

I wish the lawhon was a PJ or something different. But I guess I could always get those routes and a new pick guard and it would look stock since the MM is under the pick guard.

tempting for sure!!!

I found a $15 coupon code that basically covers the taxes. And with free shipping. This is killing me. The last thing I need is another bass, let alone another seafoam one. But $300 to my door is sooooo tempting.
If I did get it, I would probably convert it to a P or PJ though.

There’s not many P/J Hillsboro’s out there! I think I have the only one! Other than the Hillsboro 09 P/J

Hello,

Have have an opportunity to buy a 2016 Dean Edge Pro (made in Korea) for a good price. The bass is listed as brand new and from the pictures it looks pretty good. One thing I'm unsure about is the painted neck.

@B-Mac or anyone else that owns one of these, can you share with me your thoughts on this bass? Does the painted neck change the feel or play-ability of the neck?

I own an earlier 2006 model that has the badass II bridge.
Brass nut
Neck thru
3 way active pre-amp bass, mid, treble.
The one you’re looking at has the later monolithic bridge which I have no experience with except on Ibanez basses.

They’re great basses.

Sandpaper.
I could never do that to a pro neck thru Or a euro neck thru and I certainly wouldn’t buy one that was desecrated in such a way. :woot::laugh:

I saw a vid with a fender rep talk about using carnauba wax to keep the gloss finish from feeling sticky instead of the sandpaper/steel wool/scotchbrite routine.

I feel the same way.

I have never felt like that was an issue with my EP5.

Oh wow. That's a beautiful collection. Your EP5 is really nice. Looks much better than in the ads online. Thanks for the info. I feel better about the neck.
