Dean Club!!!

Treated my Dean fretless acoustic to a set of 32" scale TI Jazz Flats... much better than the old set of long scale La Bellas I had on there which were very dark. The TI Flats need playing in to mellow a bit but sound great on the Dean. The short scale E is quite beefy at .106! Interesting that the G has wound right to the edge of the silk on the machine head post even though it's short scale.

Ps question - has anyone put a heel strap button on their Dean acoustic?
I have a few of these and I use an old vintage strap I bought in 1980 that is a bit longer and has leather string which I tie around the headstock just beyond the nut and under the strings. No sure is you can find any like that today?

That is VERY nice. Where did you get it from? I'm on a constant search...

Here?
CL Search Tempest
California location

Interesting...the bass pictured on that website has the exact same S/N.

On further ‘investigation’ that is the same bass. However I went through CL directly, so I believe perhaps I dealt directly with the owner of the bass rather than the seller of basses through the consigner? Not sure.

You can find a lot of things on CL search tempest. Biggest problem is getting people to trust you if you’re out of the area and need to have the item shipped.

B-Mac, you're a lucky guy. That's your third, isn't it? Next one you see give me a shout, please :woot:
4
Two Czech
  • Exotic
  • Standard
One USA
  • Patchwork
One China
  • Player
Aside from different finishes the only ones left are the USA Basic, which is technically a patchwork without the patch layer top and a Korean model.

Wouldn’t mind having an earlier Czech model with the angled headstock and parallel tuners.

OK Just opened up a Dean Brombeck B4 and found this inside. It has an extra 9 volt battery in the electrical compartment. Don't think it is stock. Maybe the original preamp bumped up to 18 volts?

It’s original
Just sent you a pm
Each saddle has a separate piezo and each piezo has a separate setting
Real birds nest, but it’s all original.

Mine is the same.
It needs 18 volts for the two Jazz pups and adjustable piezo’s.

Finally!!!!!
One of these is On its way to me......been looking for one of these for YEARS!!
And its the 34 inch scale one, not 35 which does my surgically repaired neck a favor.
I'll have to.paint the bevels though, I think this bass looks much cooler that way.

Which one is this? There's a few of them. I believe one is neck through.

Ok......
So there were basically 2 versions of the Razorback bass from the limited information I could gather online.
The first version was made from around 2007 to 2011 or 2012ish.......
That first version was:
1.Neck thru body construction
2.Active 2 band eq
3. 35 inch scale
4. String thru body Bridge
5.Basswood used
6. The bevels were painted silver
7. It had a Huge "DIME Razorback " on the headstock

They stopped making them in the early 2010's.........
In 2017 they re-issued the Razorback bass.
This version was,
1. Set neck construction
2.Active pickups but not active eq
3. 34 inch scale
4. ABS bridge, not string thru body
5. All Mahogany construction
6. All black, bevels not painted
7. No obnoxious DIME on the headstock

So, you can see that there are actually a lot of differences between the 2 versions, but I haven't mentioned the biggest one that is the best improvement yet.
The placement of the pickups.
On the original, a lot of reviews said it sounded thin and not-very-bassy overall......I attribute that to the bridge pickup being right against the bridge and the neck pickup being right up against the neck!
Thats terrible placement! LOL.......on the reissue they moved both pickups toward the middle which sounds 100 times better at least.
I obviously have the 2017 version, which is an frigging AMAZING bass....... top notch all around, seriously.
This thing is just bad as hell.... ..
I want to spend a few days with it before I really give it a review, first impressions can be deceiving (in this case I doubt it, but it can happen)
Pics in next post.....
