Dean Club!!!

How do you Metalman owners deal with the neck dive?
I saw somewhere that some guy installed a type of bar through the neck plate screws at an angle that stuck out to the 12th fret. Now I cannot find it.
Anyone?
I don't have a Metalman, but try this BEFORE you buy anything!

This works from the OTHER end.Take an old belt.(I prefer an old dress belt)Shorten it so that it can wrap around your upper thigh.Mine is about 25 inches long.(First picture) Snapshot_2015521.jpg Drill some new holes so you can buckle it.
Notice that I have relocated the end strap peg to the back of my bass. Here! All three of my basses have this done.(second picture)Snapshot_2015521 (3).jpg

Now,with your bass strapped on feed the belt from the outside of the back of your upper thigh in between your legs.
Then between your bass and the strap.Wrap the belt around your upper thigh of your right leg to complete a loop and buckle it!(third picture)Snapshot_2015521 (5).jpg
Tighten it so that it is snug enough. There!Your bass neck is fixed at a good playing angle.(Last picture)Snapshot_2015521 (6).jpg

Now the neck doesn't dive! You can walk around with it.Your left arm doesn't have to support the weight of the neck. And your right arm doesn't have to push down on the body's upper edge. You can fret and play your bass with less forearm muscle tension.

This works by using a lever and fulcrum basis.Your bass is a lever. The strap around your neck and shoulders together are a fulcrum. You can either decrease weight on one end of the "Lever"(the neck) to raise the neck.Or you could increase the weight or"counterbalance"and/or anchor the other end.The belt "dead ends"or anchors the shortest end of the "lever" without adding weight.Try it out!

I ended up bolting a strap button that was inserted through the hole in a large washer directly to the top edge of the neck at the 11th fret on my Dean flying V. The strap is more or less permanently attached now. That was the only way I could play it for more than 10 minutes at a time without pinching a nerve in my neck. I've done blues gigs with it just to F with traditionalists.

For the record, I have 3 Deans. The V (looks cool, sounds great, ergonomic nightmare), a fretless acoustic bass (good living room unplugged sound, garbage preamp), a Rhapsody 8 (love, love, love, wish there was a fretted 4), and a flying V acoustic guitar (silly toy, has about 10 minutes of use in the last 5 years).

Do you have a picture of this?

Before I discovered my anchor belt method,I did that to my six string fretless. The screw for the peg bottomed out in the truss rod and broke off.
Drilled it out leaving a very large hole.I glued in a 3/8 button peg.Sanded it down.Snapshot_2015521 (2).jpg

I just manhandle my MetalMan V. It's never really bothered me too much, but I'm usually not playing light intricate stuff on it. It's my sludge monster.

This was advertised as a edge 4 used at G.C. For $125...when I got it I was expecting 4 knobs but onLy 3...I assumed it's a 1, anyways I kept it...put a tusq on it and had the neck adjusted and threw on some black beauties and I dig it...by the way, hello. Can I get a #?

I just bought this one.

Well, I thought it was that one but it's just a stock photo!
I really like the grain and the strap button at the neck...older models have no strap button.
Searching the web, it looks like the new Exoticas come with a conventional bridge, but I prefer the bridge on this one.
Someone from the DJ Music told me they'll pick the nicest one they have in stock...they are a Dean dealer...and I just hope it looks as good as this.
I owned an Exotica with the natural finish and quite simply it's the best-sounding bass I've ever played. I think the Aphex-system preamp is the best preamp available. I've read so many posts about Dean acoustic basses having bad electronics that I simply have to wonder how many people even know the difference between this preamp and the basic non-active electronics found in their budget line acoustic basses.
