Dean Club!!!

My favorite Dean bass is a prototype that may be the only one in existence… it was supposed to be a 2021/22 top line but is not in the lineup. The pickups, neck material and some of the other characteristics seem to also be prototypes. I happened to be in my friend’s music store when the Dean rep came by… View attachment 4431318
What was the name of the store? What town?
I got to stop into my local mom & pop shop more often as they are a Dean Dealer.

Wholesale Music in Melbourne, Florida. They’re probably the #1 or 2 Dean/Luna/DDrum dealer in the East. The owner is Gene Kimbro and he and his son Kevin are friends. Gene uses to play at the Grand Ole Opry when he was younger.

Holy crapola! I just noticed that you have 4 Cadillac Guitars, including the triple pup model! Wow!
I always saw the two next to the pink striped bass, but not the other two on both edges of the picture. Really nice!:drool::drool::drool::drool:

Great!

So it is official? A new Hillsboro Select to replace the current Hillsboro select is scheduled to come out in 2022?

Thanks!

The TB-er who bought it bought it here.

This is actually a Hillsboro select prototype for a model that is coming out very soon.

Do you gentlemen know anything about this Bass prototype that was possibly to be a 2021/2022 model but it didn't happen.

This was purchased in Florida by a member on Talk Bass at a local shop near him in Florida.
The Dean rep was in the shop but told the buyer it isn't a Hillsboro.

Sure looks like a Hillsboro. The pickups are active prototype Fishman with splittable coils, and the neck is actually smoked maple. Has a volume control and a stacked tone/EQ, along with the pickup selector switch and the coil splitter.

Any info would be appreciated.

YAY!

Nice! :drool::drool::drool::drool::drool:

Looks to be in great shape for a bass that is 21/22 years old depending on S/N.

Very nice. Can you tell me the S/N? You can send it in a PM if you'd rather not post it here. Just want it to see where it falls relative to the other ones that I have and @Ronen has and @Darth_Linux has.
I don't mind, @B-Mac It's 94705 Says"Dean European Custom, made in the Czech Republic" If it's that old, I can send it to the store for beer runs! It really is in good shape, just a couple small nicks, er, battle scars, & no buckle rash. The neck is fantastic!

Its a 1999 model.

Very nice!

BTW, I can't say enough good things about these Bart P/U's. Their placement, while unusual, makes for some killer combos. The heart of this bass lies in the blend knob...a small adjustment makes a noticeable difference. Then, let your fingers seek out the best sound. I would LOVE to try these in a fretless!:drool:

JB would play down at the bridge and not use the neck pup.
They are 'custom' for this model and not like any other Bart pup you can purchase.
I have an email somewhere that explains this and does give a Bart pup model that is close to what is on the JB
If I find it, I'll post it.
They never made a fretless of the JB sig, especially since JB was getting tired of being compared to Jaco. It would be cool to find a neck from a damaged JB and make it fretless. I'm sure it would be a 'mwah' machine.

I don't know if it's true or not, but I've heard you can order them from Bartolini (or could at one point?). The neck is model # M34J-B, & the bridge model # M34J-T. I haven't actually gone on Bartolini's site to look, but maybe someone in the club would know...who am I kidding, this is TB. Someone in the club will know. :D

Does yours indicate 'Hand crafted in Czech Republic' or 'Made in Czech Republic'?
